Greta Van Fleet's Josh Kiszka Ruptures His Eardrum

Greta Van Fleet's Josh Kiszka has revealed that he ruptured his eardrum and as a result, the band has postponed three upcoming concerts this week. Yesterday (October 17th), Josh released a statement, saying, "To our fans in Raleigh, Greenville and Jacksonville, it's with a heavy heart that we must reschedule our shows this upcoming week."

He continued, "During our last show in Bangor, I ruptured an eardrum and upon further evaluation I have just been advised it needs more time to fully heal than initially anticipated. I'm working closely with my team to ensure I get proper rest in order to finish out the year strong."

He added, "We are working on rescheduling these shows and will announce the new dates as soon as possible. If you would still like to attend the show on the new date, simply hold on to your ticket and it will be valid. If you would like a refund, they will be available at the point of purchase as soon as the new dates are announced. I'm gutted to have to do this and I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate the love and support you give us every night. It's devastating me to make this announcement, but know it's imperative in order to keep performing."

Myles Kennedy Recalls Becoming An Authentic Frontman

Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy admitted it took him a while to find his footing as a frontman. Just released is Alter Bridge's latest album, Pawns & Kings, with the band prepping for a European tour that kicks off next month.

While chatting with Classic Rock, Kennedy shed light on slowly finding himself as a performer during a 2014 Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators gig: "I tried and I tried, but I could never quite find that persona. And looking back, it's embarrassing. I felt like an imposter, and I felt like people knew it too, like they were looking at me thinking: 'This guy is bull****ting me.' They maybe didn't believe in me as a rock star, because I didn't believe in me either."

He recalled the moment when things started to work for him: "We were opening for Aerosmith and it was one of the first shows I played with Slash in front of my parents, so I was kinda operating with that rock guy persona. Then after the show I'm hanging out, and my step-dad pulled me aside and said: 'Y'know, just don't forget who you are.' And man, that was an important moment for me. Because at that point I realized: 'Y'know what, I'm just gonna be me up there, and if people like it, great, if they don't that's fine. And since I started doing that, I finally felt comfortable in my skin."

We asked Myles Kennedy how singing for Alter Bridge is different from working with Slash: "Vocally, each band brings a different approach out. The feel of the music will dictate that. With Slash, there's definitely more of a bluesy, soulful vibe that just naturally happens. With Alter Bridge, because it's got more of a metal undercurrent, I think there's something that just happens there as well. But the nice thing is is that it allows you to stretch in two different directions."

Alter Bridge kicks off its European tour on November 1st at Hamburg, Germany's Sporthalle Hamburg.

John Frusciante Reveals Love Of Prog & Genesis' Tony Banks

Red Hot Chili Peppers fans are revelling in the new double album, Return Of The Dream Canteen -- an arguably more varied musical snapshot of the band than its Unlimited Love collection, also released this year.

Guitarist John Frusciante shed light on some of his major influences, telling Guitar World, "I really love the band Genesis, their prog stuff, as well as their pop stuff. And their keyboardist Tony Banks, I put him up there with the Beatles as far as really coming up with imaginative chord progressions all over the place. He's really one of the most masterful chordsmiths that I think we've ever had."

He went on to say, "He makes these chord progressions that are so fluid, they're more like a melody than they are a chord progression. I definitely became really fluent in that style of progression during the time that I wasn't in the band."

Regarding his six-string influences, Frusciante revealed, "I really love guitar players like Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen for the way that they could make the instrument explode through hand and whammy bar techniques. But I also really like the way people like (Black Flag's) Greg Ginn or Kurt Cobain play without it being so much about technique -- although there are all kinds of unconventional techniques in there -- but the focus is definitely a more visceral thing."

Drummer Chad Smith told us a while back why John Frusciante has been such an important part of the Chili Peppers over the years: "He's really inspiring to play -- he's an inspiring person. He's amazing. He's just all about music and art all day long and all night. It's just what he lives for. It's just really inspiring to be around somebody like that."

Red Hot Chili Peppers kick off their eight-date Down Under tour on January 21st at Auckland, New Zealand's Mt. Smart Stadium.

Five Finger Death Punch's Ivan Moody Plans To Retire After The Band's Next Album

Five Finger Death Punch vocalist Ivan Moody has announced that he plans to retire after the band's next album. During a concert in Denver, CO this past weekend, Moody said, "The last 15 years of my life I have toured the world. And through that time as many of you parents know—hard workers—I have missed a lot of time with my kiddos. So I made them a deal today, and I'm going to stick to it. After this year, I am going to make one more Five Finger Death Punch album and then I am retiring from heavy metal.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH'S SALT LATE CITY SHOW CUT SHORT DUE TO DRUNK DRIVER CRASH

In other news, Five Finger Death Punch's set at the USANA Amphitheater in West Valley City, UT was cut short on Saturday night (October 15th) after the band was eight songs in. The band had to cancel their performance halfway through after the power to venue was knocked out by a drunk driver. The band's guitarist Zoltan Bathory commented of the matter on social media: "Salt Lake City started out as an incredible show with 20,000 fans ... this was going off when a drunk driver hit a transformer down the road and knocked out the power for the whole area one more reason to not drink and drive... you screwed up 20,000 people's day."

Billie Eilish Spotted Holding Hands With Jesse Rutherford

It looks like Billie Eilish may be dating The Neighborhood's Jesse Rutherford.

A video surfaced on TikTok Saturday (October 15th) that allegedly shows the 20-year-old "Bad Guy" singer holding hands with the 31-year-old vocalist at Halloween Horror Nights in Los Angeles.

Although their faces are not clearly shown in the clip, eagle-eyed social media users pieced together Eilish's timeline to confirm that it was her in the video.

Several Twitter users pointed out that the age gap is potentially problematic after they found photos of the two hanging out as far back as 2017, when Eilish was only 15

The Strokes Reportedly Working On New Album With Rick Rubin

The Strokes are reportedly working on a new album with Rick Rubin.

The producer said on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience that they recorded the "new album in Costa Rica where they "rented this house on the top of a mountain and set up the band outside."

He explained it was like "doing a concert for the ocean on the top of a mountain. Rubin continued, "It was incredible. And we did that every day playing out…They didn't want to leave. It was the best experience."

The producer also worked with The Strokes on 2020's The New Abnormal.

Chevelle Has

Chevelle is making progress on their forthcoming 10th studio album.

Sam Loeffler recently told Heavy New York, "We have a whole bunch of music written now that we're trying to put together another record for '23. Because that's what we do — you put music out, you write… It'll be our first record in a long time not with a major label, which is just neither here nor there.

"Epic Records did a lot of good stuff; we were with them for a long time, but we're finished with that contract now. So now we're doing something different. And we'll see how different it is."

The drummer previously explained that Chevelle left Epic Records after 20 years because they hadn't made any money off of album sales.

Mark Hoppus Had A Hard Time Keeping Blink-182's Reunion A Secret, Almost Told A Random Fan

After Blink-182 announced this week that they were reuniting, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus said he had a hard time keeping the secret. He was at a Dodgers game recently when a fan approached him and asked him if there was ever a chance they would record again. Hoppus said the guy was so sincere that he wanted to just tell him right there.

In the long run, Hoppus was able to wait a few days to reveal that Tom DeLonge was joining him and Travis Barker for a new album and tour.

Blink-182's new single, "Edging" is set to drop this week.

TL;DR:

  • Mark Hoppus said he had a hard time keeping the secret and almost told a fan at a recent Dodgers game.
  • Blink-182's new single, "Edging" is set to drop tomorrow (10-14).

Josh Klinghoffer Feels Red Hot Chili Peppers Stifled His Creativity

Ousted Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer believes he was actually held back creatively during his decade-long tenure in the band. In 2019, the Chili Peppers fired Klinghoffer upon John Frusciante's return to the group.

Klinghoffer, who now performs as part of Eddie Vedder's side band, the Earthlings -- as well as a touring member of Pearl Jam -- spoke frankly to Guitar World and said, "Obviously, it's sad when something is taken from you. I did a perfect 10 years with them, but for as much as I love those guys and loved playing with them, it was also enormously stifling creatively. They're an established band with an established sound, and I learned over time how little deviating from that was possible."

He went on to explain, "When I first joined, I wouldn't use certain chords when I was writing if they sounded like something John would play. Or if it sounded like a choice they would have made on their last album, I purposely went the other way."

Klinghoffer spoke about how far he was able to let his creativity shine during his run with the band: "I thought I was doing a good job of writing music with them, but it wound up not kind of becoming part of my story, or if it is part of my story with them, it's a small part. As much as I thought they were up for experimentation, they generally stayed in their own lane."

Although he calls his time with the band, "a blessing and a beautiful experience." He also felt leaving was, "the best thing that could have happened to me. I'm free to explore other musical avenues and perhaps find my own sound more than I was able to with them."

Back in the day, upon joining the Chili Peppers, drummer Chad Smith raved about Klinghoffer's playing style: "Josh is not a hit you over the head kind of guy. He comes at you like a fog, y'know? It kind of envelopes you and he's like a sonic architect more than like a riff guy. But he comes up with the coolest, smart, cool -- like he can rock hard, no doubt about it. Josh can get his rock on. But Josh is an incredible musician."

New Doc On Big Audio Dynamite's Don Letts Set For Release

A career spanning doc on the legendary British film and musical counterculture hero Don Letts, titled Rebel Dread, will be available for streaming and purchase on November 1st. Letts, who became widely known to the MTV crowd after co-founding Big Audio Dynamite with The Clash's Mick Jones, is renowned for his work on countless videos and films for the Clash, PiL, the Pretenders, Elvis Costello & The Attractions, Jimmy Cliff, and so many more.

According to the movie's press release:

Celebrating one of popular music and film's most brilliant and benevolent luminaries, Rebel Dread explores the life and creative work of Don Letts. For decades, Letts has been at the center of the action, uniting creative scenes and people as a trailblazing artist and documentarian across punk rock, reggae, rap/hip-hop, street art, music filmmaking, and beyond.

As a countercultural lightning rod for nearly five decades, he has played a significant role in propelling some of the world's most inventive and influential avant garde music, art and film into exciting new terrain.

Letts, who's currently a BBC Radio host and an acclaimed, globally in-demand DJ, will announce his debut solo album and release his first single on October 21st.

Rebel Dread will premiere in Manhattan on October 24th at the Village East by Angelika -- with Letts on-hand for a post screening Q&A.

The L.A. premiere is set for November 1st the Grammy Museum, with Letts also appearing at the event.

A while back, while chatting with United Reggae TV, Don Letts shed light on his major inspirations: "If I hadn't have met the punks you probably wouldn't be talking to me now, because it was through their energy and inspiration that I was moved to pick up a movie camera and reinvent myself as a filmmaker. I saw a film, The Harder They Come -- Jamaica's most famous film. Great movie starring Jimmy Cliff and I was really impressed by the way it entertained, informed, and inspired. Because as a first generation British-born black of that time, we knew what we sounded like, because we had a soundtrack -- reggae. But we really didn't know what we looked like. One of two things happened to change that. The advent of Bob Marley and the film, The Harder They Come, which, kind of, spoke volumes to, kind of, the black British youth that were growing up in this country. And we were looking for this information -- y'know, visual accompaniment."

Additionally, their first new song together, "Edging," is set to drop on Friday (October 14th)

Unfinished Chris Cornell / Eddie Van Halen Collaboration Exists

Chris Cornell guitarist Pete Thorn revealed that late-Soundgarden frontman and Eddie Van Halen actually worked together on the same track. Loudwire reported that the pair had become friendly around the time Cornell was recording his 2009 solo album Scream -- with Cornell asking Van Halen to play on one of the tracks. Producer Dave Friedman hooked the pair up, with Thorn recalling, "45 minutes later he texted me and said, 'Ed wants you to call him, here's his cell phone number.' So I left him a message and he called me back and said, 'Well how soon can you come up the studio and play me this stuff?' So we set up a date, I drove up the 5150 (studio) , and he was just so cool."

Thorn went on to remember making the trek to Van Halen's studio and getting to work: "I get out of the car and there he is, and y'know, he gives me a big hug and said, 'Okay, let's go studio and take a listen. . .' I was just like, 'This is my hero,' y'know? 'This is awesome!' He took me into 5150 and he was so humble and unassuming."

He went on to explain, "I don't want to get anyone excited about this thinking it ever got finished because it didn't, but he did work on it. I would go up there over the next couple of weeks and he had played on it and I'd be like, 'I can't believe this is happening, myself and Eddie on a track.' But it's a long story, but it never got a vocal on it by Chris. And Ed got busy doing the next Van Halen album right about then. . . it just never ended up getting finished. I heard it once, but we just never finished it. So somewhere at 5150 there's a 24-track reel with that on it, and someday I'd love to (find it)."

Slash -- a close friend and longtime fan -- believes that although Eddie Van Halen has been lauded for his groundbreaking physicality -- a lot of the guitarists that followed in his wake, failed to pick up on the subtleties that made him so unique: "I don't think anybody's had as much an influence. Every kid on the block was learning Van Halen licks. In between all the technical prowess that Eddie had, there was a killer blues thing. Everybody that emulated it, nobody ever got that part. They had the hammer-ons, they had the tremelo bar stuff, and all that kind of crap -- but they never got the most important was all the really tasty stuff that was in-between. And just, like, the melodic stuff where all the soul was coming from."

Rock Quick Hits: Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots + Nickelback!

ROCK N' ROLL FANTASY CAMP TO FEATURE SOUNDGARDEN AND STONE TEMPLE PILOTS: Kim Thayil of Soundgarden and Robert and Dean Deleo of Stone Temple Pilots will be taking part in Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp's A Whole Lotta Rock Camp next spring. (Consequence)

NICKELBACK HIT GOES VIRAL ON TIKTOK: Nickelback is having a moment on TikTok. Their 2014 hit "She Keeps Me Up" has been used in a variety of thirst trap videos on the social media platform. The band addressed it on Twitter Tuesday (October 11th), writing, "Thanks for all the love for 'She Keeps Me Up'. That one was pretty unexpected!" (Loudwire)

Chris Jericho Is Still Healing From His Throat Injury

Fozzy front man Chris Jericho recently revealed that he is still healing from his throat injury.

According to a transcription from Blabbermouth, the former wrestler told Darren Paltrowitz, host of the Paltrocast with Darren Paltrowitz, "It's getting better, man. It's one of those things that I was thinking, like, oh, when the bruising goes away that you'll just be able to sing again. And it's, like, no, it's not like that. If you tear your shoulder, it doesn't just get better; you've gotta do the rehab and start with three-pound weights. So that's kind of where I'm at."

Jericho sustained a bruised larynx in August at the AEW "Quake By The Lake" event in Minnesota where he squared off against Jon Moxley for the interim AEW World Championship.

Alice In Chains' 'Dirt' Back In The Billboard Top 10

Alice In Chains are back in the Billboard Top 10 with the 30th anniversary edition of their 1992 album, Dirt. The new, two-LP 12-inch black vinyl edition of the album has hit Number Nine -- only three spots lower than it did during its first go around back in 1992. The new chart placement is the first time Dirt has been in the Top 10 since 1994.

Ultimate-Guitar.com reported, "Dirt is estimated to have sold 26,000 equivalent album units over the last week, which marks a 641-percent increase compared to the prior week, thanks to the remastered edition."

Alice In Chains leader Jerry Cantrell told us a while back that the band's late-frontman Layne Staley was a tough act to follow: "Layne was a very unique, one-of-a-kind guy. There's, like, a handful of those guys in music, for every generation, that are that unique and that hard to cop, but a lot of people try (laughs). But there's a lot of people that feel the weight of what that guy brought to music and have been influenced by it."

Imagine Dragons Partnered With Crisis Text Line For Mental Health Day

To honor World Mental Health Day on Monday (October 10th), Imagine Dragons shared the music video for "I Don't Like Myself."

Along with the music video release, the band partnered with Crisis Text Line, encouraging fans to support the organization and their work through fundraisers on Imagine Dragons' social media platforms.

The band wrote on Instagram, "Today is a good day for asking those around you how they're really doing. Sometimes a listening ear does a lot of good."

Joe Satriani Feels Only Wolfgang Van Halen Should Sub For His Dad

Despite initially being tapped by Alex Van Halen to handle guitar duties for a loosely proposed Eddie Van Halen tribute show -- Joe Satriani now maintains he's not the man for the job.

During a chat with Ultimate Classic Rock, Satriani said, "When I saw Wolfgang (Van Halen) playing at the Taylor Hawkins benefit, I thought it was the most natural, beautiful thing I'd seen in a long time. It was such a wonderful thing to see him play his dad's music like that, and he's such an incredible musician. I thought, 'Well, if the thing is ever gonna happen, he should do it.' It just seemed more natural than reaching out to somebody like me."

He went on to say, "The world should just wait for him to make up his mind how he wants to do it, and we should leave him alone, let him figure out the best time and place for it. Whatever he comes up with will be the best way to do it, I think."

Regarding his original agreement to step into Van Halen's shoes for the tribute show, Satriani admitted: "I heard myself saying 'yes' before my better judgment kicked in, because I am such a fan of Eddie and his work, and I thought, 'Wow, it would be such a great labor of love to dive into that and try to understand the essence what he was doing for each song.'"

Satriani, whose six-string prowess remains amazing, revealed that part of the allure of performing Van Halen songs would be the chance to really analyze what Eddie Van Halen was actually playing: "I can kind of figure out the fingers, but there's some things that are too quirky that he does that I can't figure out how to do. Getting inside the music is really what you need to do when you go to play it, to capture the spirit of it and learn what not to play when you're playing each song. I would really enjoy that."

As far as any sort of chance in getting both David Lee Roth and his Chickenfoot bandmate Sammy Hagar on the same bill playing Van Halen music, Satriani said, "I mean, once you really sit down and you start talking about it, there are just so many roadblocks; you can't imagine just how it's going to happen. I think they need to make some important decisions. I think it's really up to Wolfgang and his Uncle Alex to figure out what to do."

Mark Hoppus Is Working On A Memoir

Mark Hoppus is working on a memoir about his music career and medical journey.

He told The Hollywood Reporter Saturday (October 8th), "I started writing a book actually, earlier this year. I'm not that far into it yet but I'm writing a book about my life and experience in Blink and what I've gone through over the past year or so."

The 50-year-old Blink-182 rocker revealed his battle with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma on Instagram in 2021.

He told the outlet that he just got his one year clean scan and added, "I'm feeling better every day."

Fans Brace For Big Announcement From Blink-182

Fans are convinced that a major announcement is coming from Blink-182 soon.

Loudwire reports that the band has completely wiped their online presence, clearing out all of their Instagram posts on the official band account. Additionally, the band's website has a scrolling "under construction message" and a note to "check back soon" for more info.

Their most recent studio album, Nine, was released in 2019.

All Time Low Drops New Single, 'Sleepwalking'

Vocalist and guitarist Alex Gaskarth shared in a release, "'Sleepwalking' is a reflection on time spent away from whatever it is that makes you feel alive, on time lost to the weight of dragging feet and drifting thoughts."

All Time Low recently announced a special one-off headline show at London's iconic Wembley Arena which will take place on March 17th.

Black Stone Cherry To Release Next Album In Early 2023

Black Stone Cherry drummer John Fred Young told Loud TV that they plan to finish their next album in December for an early 2023 release.

He told the outlet, "We started working on the new record this summer. And we've got about… I think there's about eight songs right now that we had done, and we're gonna go back in in December and finish up the rest. So it's a really, really cool situation."

He added, "The music is really heavy, but also there's the Black Stone Cherry ballad or two."
