Pearl Jam Issuing Cancelled 'Give Way' Live Set For Record Store Day

Set for release on Record Store Day (April 22nd ) is Pearl Jam's Give Way live collection. The set will be limited to 4,000 CD's and 15,500 double-LP's. The infamous live set was originally prepped for release back in 1998 as a promotional live disc featuring 17 tracks from Pearl Jam's Melbourne Park concert in Melbourne, Australia on March 5th, 1998.

PearlJamOnline.it posted the backstory to the Give Way CD:

Give Way was intended to be given away for free the day of the release of (1998's) Single Video Theory to the first customers purchasing the video from Best Buy stores. The day before the release, the CD's were recalled and destroyed by Sony. Supposedly this promotion was not properly cleared with the label and/or the band.

Of the 50,000 CDs pressed, most copies were destroyed and it is rumored Best Buy was threatened with a $10,000 fine for each unreturned disc. Despite that, a number of copies surfaced over the years (impossible to exactly determine how much of them are survived, but a good guess would be at least 250/300).

This CD has been professionally mixed/mastered, and although it's not the complete show the audio quality is far superior to any other source available including the pre-FM Sony promo. The title Give Way is a nod to the Australian counterpart to the Yield sign of the United States.

Over 30 years on, Pearl Jam remains one of the most consistent live acts around. Guitarist Mike McCready explained a while back why he thinks that is: "The sure-fire thing is just a confidence in our band, and I know that we've done that before and we'll do it again, because we are a really good, tight live band. And a lot of that is non-spoken because we've played together for so long. It's an interesting thing. I don't know if there's a sure-fire way of doing it, but I think we hit it pretty well most times we do it."

Bassist Jeff Ament told us a while back that even with several decades under its belt, the band is still eager to explore new sounds: "We wanted to be a band that could really dip our toes into a lot of different styles. And I think we're there and we still know that there's more that we could do. There's still some areas that we can get into."

The trackisting to Pearl Jam's Give Way is:

"Release"
"Brain Of J."
"Animal"
"Faithful"
"In My Tree"
"I Got Shit"
"Corduroy"
"Even Flow"
"Spin The Black Circle"
"Given To Fly"
"Hail, Hail"
"M.F.C."
"State Of Love And Trust"
"Do The Evolution"
"Alive"
"Black"
"Immortality"

Joe Perry Dropping Star-Studded Solo Set Next Month

On May 26th, Aerosmith's Joe Perry will release a revamped version of his last solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto -- now renamed Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII. Ultimate Classic Rock reported the collection features alternate versions of the tracks from the original 2018 set along with newly recorded material.

The Joe Perry Project, featuring Gary Cherone on lead vocals, kicks off a six-show East Copast and Midwest run on Saturday night (April 15th) at Mashantucket, Connecticut at Foxwoods Casino Resort.

Sweetzerland Manifesto MKII includes a cover of Barry McGuire's 1965 chart-topper, "Eve Of Destruction" and features such high profile guests on the album are the Who's Zak Starkey and Johnny Depp on drums, bass by Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo with vocals by Joe Perry, Gary Cherone, Chris Robinson, Terry Reid, David Johansen, and Cheap Trick's Robin Zander. Out now is the album's lead single, "Fortunate One," featuring Chris Robinson and Robert DeLeo.

I n the official announcemnet for the new album, Joe Perry said, "We had so many songs and with everything going on with the (Hollywood) Vampires, Aerosmith, Covid, not touring and touring, this music kept riding along for me. It was like the engine of a train that wasn't going to stop. I'd wanted to put these songs out, and the idea of adding them to a vinyl release or 'Deluxe Version' turned into doing MKII. I tend to think in terms of albums. The first one had a vibe, and MKII is a little more rocked out. I almost prefer it. It's one of those records I can play from front to back live."

Joe Perry told us that he always fools around with a few covers to open himself up to the songwriting process: "To get inspired to go down and write, I would go down and cover some of my favorite old rock songs or blues songs. So I'd go down and do, like, 'Little Red Rooster' -- y'know, sing it, play it, and do the whole exercise and, and finish a song. And then the next day, I would write something new."

Motionless In White Earn Their Second Gold Single For 'Voices'

Motionless In White have earned their second gold single in the United States. Their single "Voices" was released as the sixth and final single from their 2017 album Graveyard Shift. The RIAA officially certified the track as gold on April 7th, 2023.

Report: Guns N' Roses Recorded Tracks With Easy-E

Evidentially there are several complete collaborations between N.W.A.'s late-Eric "Eazy-E" Wright and Guns N' Roses. Rockthembells.com spoke with Easy-E's longtime friend and associate Arnold "Bigg A" White, who shed light on the unlikely team-up, recalling, "There is unreleased music still out there. We know for a fact that he had two or three or four reels in his car when he went to the hospital. Those reels came up missing. He had songs with Slash from Guns N' Roses -- he had songs with Guns N' Roses on those reels."

White went on to explain that the elements to the collaboration remains strewn all over the place: "Those reels have been found 'cause they wound up in Canada. That's a whole other story, but what happened to them (since), I don't know. I don't know if the estate got them, but there is unreleased music, and (rapper and producer) Yella has some, I know for a fact that there is some unreleased acapella vocals, that he was working on some records with a couple of producers I worked with and last I heard was that they were up in (Dr.) Dre's studio."

Eazy-E died from AIDS-induced pneumonia on March 26th, 1995 at the age of 30.

Ousted Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Unimpressed With New Music

Ousted Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer admits he's been far from impressed with the music the band has recorded without him, according to Consequence Of Sound. Guitarist John Frusciante rejoined in late-2019 to perform on the band's next two albums, Unlimited Love and Return Of The Dream Canteen, both of which were released in 2022. Klinghoffer now performs as part of Eddie Vedder's side band, the Earthlings -- as well as a touring member of Pearl Jam.

While appearing on the Brazilian podcast 5 Notas, Klinghoffer admitted he couldn't help comparing the unreleased music he was creating with the band prior to being forced out to the music featured on their new albums with Frusciante: "It's tough (listening to their new music), only because I honestly think we were doing cooler music. . . I never want to sound negative about anyone doing music -- but I was shocked when I heard their new record."

When asked about the band's latest music recorded with John Frusciante, Klinghoffer admitted: "I don't think I finished (listening to) the second one. I was trying to cram it in once before leaving on a plane, and I got as far as maybe the ninth song, and I don't think I listened to the rest."

Back in the day, upon joining the Chili Peppers, drummer Chad Smith raved about Klinghoffer's playing style: "Josh is not a hit you over the head kind of guy. He comes at you like a fog, y'know? It kind of envelopes you and he's like a sonic architect more than like a riff guy. But he comes up with the coolest, smart, cool -- like he can rock hard, no doubt about it. Josh can get his rock on. But Josh is an incredible musician."

Rock Quick Hits: Gavin Rossdale + The Offspring!

GAVIN ROSSDALE IS A GRANDPA: Gavin Rossdale is now a grandfather. The Bush frontman's daughter, Daisy Lowe, welcomed a baby girl with her fiancé Jordan Saul on Sunday (April 9th). She wrote on Instagram, "Our Easter egg finally hatched. Ivy Love Saul you have made all my dreams come true- our dream girl. I have never known happiness or love like this. I can't stop crying tears of joy."

THE OFFSPRING TO SUPPORT BUDWEISER: The Offspring are planning to support Budweiser following country singer Travis Tritt's decision to ban Anheuser-Busch beverages from his backstage hospitality riders. Noodles tweeted Thursday (April 6th) , "We are going to be adding Anheiser-Busch products & Jack Daniels to our hospitality rider just to piss off a bunch of dimwitted bigots who fear what they don't understand. I know a shit-ton of artists who feel exactly the same. (And we all drink A LOT)." Tritt lashed out after the brand teamed up with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney for a March Madness campaign.

Geddy Lee Publishing Autobiography Later This Year

With little fanfare, Rush's Geddy Lee officially announced on his Geddyimages Instagram account, his autobiography, titled My Effin' Life, will be published on November 14th. Other than posting the cover sleeve to the memoir, Lee added only, "More to come."

Lee had previously recalled he had begun working on the memoir during lockdown. Back in 2021 he posted on his social media pages "There were some shiny silver linings to be found at home: teaching my grandson the finer points of baseball and birdwatching, tending to my pups (one of whom was quite ill) and spending the evenings with my lovely better half, glass of Armagnac in hand, as we watched every European mystery show ever produced. Oh, and another thing: I began to write. Words, that is."

Lee went on to explain that the long shadow of Rush drummer Neil Peart's 2020 death played a part in inspiring the upcoming tome: "My friend and collaborator on the Big Beautiful Book Of Bass, Daniel Richler, saw how I was struggling in the aftermath of Neil's passing, and tried coaxing me out of my blues with some funny tales from his youth, daring me to share my own in return. So I did -- reluctantly at first, but then remembering, oh yeah, I like wrestling with words."

Despite all the years he's clocked in writing, recording, and touring, Geddy Lee finds himself still learning new things about the business all the time: "It's awfully naive to think that you've learned everything. You're always learning. There's always something else to learn. There's always something to improve. It's not unlike any other aspect of your life, y'know, any other endeavor. Nobody's finished as an artist, y'know, at a certain age, (when) you go, 'Well, that's it. I now know everything, and I'm a complete artist.'"

Mick Mars Claims Motley Crue Fake Plays Live Concerts

Guitarist Mick Mars has claimed that Motley Crue fake plays live during concerts. According to Deadline, in a lawsuit filed earlier this week, Mars claimed that Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee have been fake playing and pre recorded some of their vocals for the tour.

Mars is requesting that seven corporate entities associated with Motley Crue hand over records related to their business dealings following a 2022 dispute stemming from Mars notifying the band that he'd be retiring from touring due to a medical condition. Mars claims the band subsequently attempted to oust him altogether and diminish future earnings he claims he's entitled to.

Ed McPherson said in a statement, "It is beyond sad that, after 41 years together, a band would try to throw out a member who is unable to tour anymore because he has a debilitating disease. Mick has been pushed around for far too long in this band, and we are not going to let that continue."

Sasha Frid, attorney for Motley Crue told CNN in a statement that Mars' lawsuit is "unfortunate and completely off-base," and that Mars, and the other members of Mötley Crüe, signed a 2008 agreement that "in no event shall any resigning shareholder be entitled to receive any monies attributable to live performances (i.e., tours)."

Frid's statement continued to say that after Mars publicly resigned from Mötley Crüe, "the band offered Mick a generous compensation package to honor his career with the band" despite "the fact that the band did not owe Mick anything."

The band also addressed allegations that they performed some songs to pre-recorded tracks while on tour. Frid said in a statement, "Mötley Crüe always performs its songs live but during the last tour Mick struggled to remember chords, played the wrong songs and made constant mistakes which led to his departure from the band."

Frid later said, "After the last tour, Mick publicly resigned from Mötley Crüe. Despite the fact that the band did not owe Mick anything — and with Mick owing the band millions in advances that he did not pay back — the band offered Mick a generous compensation package to honor his career with the band. Manipulated by his manager and lawyer, Mick refused and chose to file this ugly public lawsuit."

Hayley Williams Celebrates The 10 Year Anniversary Of Paramore's Self Titled Album

Hayley Williams took to social media to celebrate 10 years of Paramore's self titled album. Williams wrote via Instagram, "10 years ago, we put out a record that took a lot of guts and self-determination to make. Mainly because after losing 2 members of the band Josh and Zac Farro there was so much discourse around whether or not the band could make anything worthwhile – let alone stay together." She added, "Thank you for allowing us the room for creative risk and for keeping this story going."

She continued, "The story of Paramore has been rife with reality show-style drama. Well, until the last 6 or 7 years. It's really great to be able to look back from where we are now, knowing the story didn't end when some said it would. If all that led to our Self-Titled album hadn't happened, we'd be the most boring band of all time. If we hadn't been forced out of our trauma-bonded comfort zones, we would've never known what we might be capable of."

She added, "Taylor York and I wrote these songs having no idea if people would accept a reformed, more liberated version of Paramore. Our fans not only accepted but championed our rebirth," Williams concluded her message. "Thank you for allowing us the room for creative risk and for keeping this story going. We love you. Paramore forever."

Ace Frehley Says Kiss' Paul Stanley Cursed Him Out After Being Given An Ultimatum

Former KISS member Ace Frehley says that after demanding Paul Stanley take back comments made during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Frehley requested an apology within seven days, but was instead told "F**k you Ace, I'm not going to apologize" and was hung up on.

Frehley told Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk about the ultimatum he gave Stanley, saying, "Yes he did, not long after the show was over. I was blindsided by the phone call because I saw his name come up on my cell phone and I spoke to him 100 different times on that number — and that can be verified by Verizon, who is my cell phone carrier — I figured he was calling me maybe to apologize or at least explain why he said that. Maybe he meant it more towards Peter than me."

He continued, "Instead of an apology, I got a five-second phone call, 'F**k you Ace, I'm not going to apologize' and hung up. He wasn't even man enough to give me a rebuttal and explain why I'm so upset or anything like that," the guitarist continues."

Frehley added, "And if you look for your email messages that I sent you, I did screengrabs from Verizon — it's the same day as our interview and it says five seconds,"
