Ozzy Osbourne Makes His SDCC Debut; Releases New Single

Ozzy Osbourne made his SDCC debut last Friday (July 22nd), setting a record for the larest signing of the year on the convention room floor. In addition, Ozzy also released "Degradation Rules," the second single on his upcoming album Patient Number 9.

The song marks the first time that Black Sabbath co-founder and guitarist Tony Iommi appears on an Ozzy solo album. Revolver noted that the single--written by Ozzy with Andrew Watt, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith--features "Iommi's signature heavy riffery and even some wailing harmonica by Ozzy hearkening back to classic Sabbath."

Patient Number 9 is due out on September 9th.

Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Holds Benefit For Highland Park Community

Last night (7-27) Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and clothing designer, Chloe Mendel held an event to benefit the Highland Park Community Foundation. The Illinois town was where dozens of people were injured and seven were killed during this year's July 4th parade.

Corgan told Billboard, "The only reason we weren't there was that Chloe was on a plane, and our business was closed."

The two long-time partners created the Together and Together Again benefit concert that livestreamed last night (7-27) and encouraged viewers worldwide to donate.

The event, which was held at their clothing store, included a variety of special guests that included Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin as well as Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction, jazz saxophonist, Frank Catalano, and singer Billy Swan.

The performance is available to view on YouTube and donations are still being accepted.

Corgan has lived in Highland Park for about 20 years and is very involved with the community.

Slash Appears In New Capitol One Back Commercial

Slash is showing off his comedic side in a new commercial for Capital One Bank. Consequence.net reported the Guns N' Roses guitarist appears in the 30-second clip, which demonstrates how easy it is to bank at Capitol One. The commercial features him auditioning for a band and playing the intro to "Sweet Child O' Mine" in front of his downhearted competition -- only to be told "You're in" -- after which a happy Slash replies, simply, "Oh, cool."

Although considered among the top guitar icons for over 35 years, Slash told us a while back that he prefers being in a band as opposed to a solo "guitar hero" type: "I'm a band guy. I've been in a band since I was 16 years old, I guess. So I like being in a band, I think that a group of musicians working, interacting together can come up with amazing material and so on and so forth."

Guns N' Roses kicks off their 16-date South American tour on September 1st, in Manaus, Brazil at Arena da Amazonia.

Ivan Moody Says Controversial Video Went 'Down Like A Fart In Church!'

Five Finger Death Punch singer Ivan Moody has spoken out against the band's 2020 music video for "Living The Dream," and he recently revealed the clip caused tension between him and band member Zoltan Bathory, who came up with the idea for the video. The "Living The Dream" video was perceived as anti-mask at the height of the pandemic, and after seeing the video for the first time, Moody told Metal Hammer, "I called him, like, ‘You implemented your own platform into Five Finger Death Punch, and now I'm gonna have to answer for it, because I'm the singer.' And it ended up going down like a fart in church!"

Moody added, "That's what he visualized, but it's not what I had in mind when I wrote it. For those who understood it, great. And for those who didn't, I'm sorry, I didn't agree with it either. I love Zoltan to death, that's his opinion, but it won't ever be done with my name on it again."

Bathory explained, "Obviously, that video created a lot of dust, and I really don't want to kick up another sh**storm about it. But it was about the blatant hypocrisy of what was happening. You can do this, but the population can't! As a band, we sort of withdrew from politics and that was the last political commentary, but it flew over people's heads and we were accused of the craziest sh** . . ."

Five Finger Death Punch will release their new album, AfterLife, on August 19th. That night, they kick off a headlining tour with Megadeth, The HU & Fire From The Gods in Portland, OR.

Judas Priest's Rob Halford 'A Bit Pissed' About Rock Hall Induction Category

Judas Priest will be heading into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year but frontman Rob Halford isn't too happy about it. Instead of going in in the performer category, they're getting the Musical Excellence Award, which has historically gone to session musicians and producers. Halford recently told AZ Central, "I was a bit pissed."

He explained, "At the end of the day, does it matter? Some days, I go, "No, it doesn't matter. We're in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Be grateful. Shut the hell up. And then there are other days where I'm like, "God damn, why did they give us the Musical Excellence Award?" Because it sounds very, you know, grandiose . . . Why do they put these tags on the damn thing? Why don't they go, "Welcome. You're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" and leave it at that. It's as though we got this far. We're, like, one step away, you know? I know it's silly, but it's just frustrating."

Those being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in the performer category include Eminem, Dolly Parton, and Pat Benatar.

The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 5th at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The Induction Ceremony will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

Perry Farrell & Billy Corgan Set For Livestream Fundraiser For July 4th Shooting Victims

Perry Farrell is firing on all cylinders beyond Jane's Addiction's upcoming arena tour with Smashing Pumpkins. Spin.com reported today (July 27th), Farrell will appear at a benefit concert spearheaded by Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan to raise money for the victims of the July 4th mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, which has been the musician's home for the past two decades. The show will be live-streamed from Madame Zuzu's, the tea shop Corgan and partner Chloe Mendel own in downtown Highland Park.

Ahead of this week's Lollapalooza festival at Chicago's Grant Park, Farrell will appear with Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot today, and shed light on why he's been so involved with the Highland Park attack: "It's something that I've been thinking about for a long, long time: gun violence. What is the cause of it, how do you alleviate it."

The Together And Together Again - A Benefit For The Highland Park Community Foundation begins tonight (July 27th) at 9 ET, live on Smashing Pumpkins' YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/3vjiJMC

Perry Farrell went on to talk about this fall's 32-city joint arena tour between Jane's Addiction and Smashing Pumpkins: "What I found interesting about Billy's offer is that we're going to share production. So I have the ability to make a show that is as grand as his. And I like that a lot. Because there's something unique about Billy -- not only in his music, but in the fact that he puts his time into producing a show that is not just musical, but also visceral. You're being lit up by lights and video and costuming and all these things. It's a proper show. I think a lot of people today, they get up there on the stage and they're just greedy -- they don't want to put out for any of those other things that, I would say, you expect when you're coming to a concert. Don't you want see the band up there all sexy, and check out what they're wearing, and have the lights creating drama? And then, of course, there's the sound, and the sound's going to be fantastic at these shows."

Farrell offered up an update about his ongoing studio work: "As soon as we finish this (Porno For Pyros) Lolla performance, we're going back home and I'm going to be recording through August. And that will be for Porno For Pyros, for Kind Heaven Orchestra, and for Jane's Addiction."

A while back, Perry Farrell told us he's always felt particularly safe when onstage: "Musicians and music festivals. . . I would be more afraid if I was a politician or an army. I think that the last people --although I would say that nobody is above getting their ass kicked and retaliated on -- but musicians, I think, we're peace makers."

On Saturday (July 30th) Perry Farrell will perform with Porno For Pyros at Chicago's Grant Park as part of Lollapalooza.

Pop Evil Drummer Hayley Cramer Opens Up About Life During The Pandemic

Pop Evil drummer Hayley Cramer opened up about not being able to play music during the pandemic. She told the BREWtally Speaking podcast, "It's a really scary thing. I sat there and I was, like, 'I don't have a Plan B. I don't know who I am without being on the road.' It's a really scary place to be in. I continued to pay my bills, but it was not through doing what I do best. And I'm all about… When I do what I do best, I project really good energy out to people. When you follow your passion and you're doing something that you love, you can give that good energy to people. And if you're not doing what you love, it's harder to do that. And I found myself becoming sad or angry or lost."

She continued, "And I just had to navigate through it. And there were a lot of people that have gone through the same thing. Everything you've worked your whole life for and you've trained for…"

Hayley added, "There was an advert in England with this ballet dancer on it going, 'Oh, just retrain to be a computer geek.' Well, she or he trained to be a ballet dancer. That's what they do best. Support that. They're gonna give good to the world by doing that. They're not gonna give good to the world by sitting behind a computer. It was just ridiculous. So, yeah, anybody who's kind of gone through that and is coming through the other side, props. Because it's weird. It's hard."

Chris Jericho Borrowed Vince Neil's 'Notorious' Habit

Fozzy lead singer Chris Jericho says he was forced to borrow a page from Motley Crue's Vince Neil when he experienced some breathing issues mid-concert last year due to a pulmonary embolism. Jericho joked to Blabbermouth, "I kind of sounded like Vince Neil who's notorious for singing every second or third word and letting the crowd fill in the rest."

Jericho fortunately survived the embolism after being diagnosed with blood clots during Fozzy's 2021 UK tour. He explained, "The first show was in Liverpool, and that one went good. The second one was in Manchester. And then the third one, I believe, was in Newcastle. And Manchester, after the show, I went out, had a couple of drinks, and got back on the bus fairly late. And the next day in Newcastle, when we were doing the show, I felt a little winded, which was weird because I'm never winded on stage, even if it's super hot. Sometimes you play a venue with a low roof or something along those lines, and you get super hot to where you're, like, Oh my gosh. It's hard to breathe. This was not that. I found myself kind of searching for breath, gasping for breath during the songs, to where it was hard to even sing all the lyrics."

Fozzy's Save The World Tour opens on September 8th in Columbus, OH.

Imagine Dragons New Ambassadors For Ukranian Fundraising Platform

Imagine Dragons have been named ambassadors of UNITED24 and are working with First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska to help promote the organization's Medical Aid direction by creating a fundraiser for ambulance vehicles. UNITED24 was initiated Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to help fundraise humanitarian efforts in the country, according to Consequence of Sound.

Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds said, "We love the people of Ukraine and want to help in any way possible. Injustices like this can only be conquered when people around the world come together. We stand by the beautiful people of Ukraine and their courageous leader President Zelensky. We will work with UNITED24 and local leaders to continually find ways to raise awareness and funds for the people until this unjust war ends. We look forward to the day when we can play a concert again in Kyiv and celebrate freedom, life and music with the resilient and strong people of Ukraine."

The band's scheduled show in Ukraine last month was canceled due to Russia's invasion, so they opted to cancel their performances in Russia and pulled their music from Russian shelves.

Fellow UNITED24 ambassadors include footballer Andriy Shevchenko, tennis star Elina Svitolina, and actor Liev Schreiber, with additional ambassadors to be announced in the coming days.

Slash: 'I Don't Think I've Ever Owned A Copy Of Appetite For Destruction'

In a new chat with Goldmine, Slash admitted that he's unsure if he ever owned a copy of Guns N' Roses' 1987 masterpiece, Appetite For Destruction. Slash explained, "I don't think I've ever owned the Appetite For Destruction record. And even if I did, I didn't live anywhere, so I wouldn't have any place to put it! Granted, I did have a lot of records I've kept. But I just never was one to sort of really collect records of the bands that I'm actually in. Does that make sense?"

He went on to say, "You have to understand -- I mean, it's like this for all the records I do -- I don't collect any of it. If you were to come to my house, you'd be hard pressed to know I was in a band. Or at least any band you had heard of. I mean there's instruments around, but I don't have any, like, souvenirs or anything special from the releases over the years."

Slash shed light on how things really work for a musician who's been constantly recording and touring on a treadmill over the years: "I mean, you make a record, you go through this whole process of creating the music and working on it with the guys and developing it. Then you go into the studio and you record it, then go in and mix it. And then the final process is mastering. And once that's done and it's off to be released, you've moved on. Y'know what I mean? It's like you've gone through everything you need to on that material, and the only thing you have to look forward to at that point is going out and performing it. . . You play it every night, so the material's always there. And it's exciting if you hear it on the radio or something. But I don't listen to it otherwise."

Slash told us a while back what he's most proud of when it comes to Guns N' Roses: "The most proud I am would have to be just the sense of accomplishment from getting from these sort of nomadic gutter rats that we definitely were, to manage to get from that point and make a record and go out and start touring and doing all that stuff and then to actually succeed, to have that record succeed, it was definitely an accomplishment that I'm very proud of."

Guns N' Roses kicks off their 16-date South American tour on September 1st, in Manaus, Brazil at Arena da Amazonia.

Slipknot's Michael Pfaff Injures Ankle During Tour

Slipknot's Michael Pfaff has injured his ankle but has vowed to keep performing Pfaff shared an Instagram photo, along with the caption, SLIPKNOT….if you don't get hurt once in a while, you're probably not doing it right. See you Tuesday, VERONA".

The band kicked off its summer 2022 European tour on July 20th at Romexpo in Bucharest, Romania. They're scheduled to play Verona, Italy tomorrow (July 26th).

Motley Crue & Def Leppard Doing Amazing Business On The Road

As expected, Motley Crue and Def Leppard's co-headlining "Stadium Tour" with Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts is doing amazing business on the road, according to Blabbermouth. The trek has topped Pollstar's "Live75" chart, which ranks the past 30 days of average ticket sales by active tours globally.

Pollstar posted, "'The Stadium Tour,' moved 96 percent of the available tickets from concerts at 11 venues in U.S. cities to average 36,934 sold seats per show. The bands also earned "Heavy Hitter" status with a $4.94 million gross average, the highest of the week among the 75 ranked tours."

We caught up with the Crue's Nikki Sixx who explained there are dozens of jobs the crowd never knows about that end up being key to keeping the show on the road: "When you go out on a big tour, you have specific jobs for safety. And one of those is mapping out the edge of the stage with a glow tape, so when the lights go out, we as entertainers can see where the edge of the stage is. What the audience doesn't know is that without that tape, the pit between the barricade and the audience, looks just like a stage. It's completely black, so, you could walk off the stage -- which I've done as well. I've fallen off the stage multiple times. Me and Vince (Neil) were laughin' about one time we both fell off the stage (laughs) at the same show."

Recording Studios Give Billie Eilish Anxiety

Billie Eilish recently revealed that recording studios give her anxiety.

The singer told Apple Music's New Music Daily, "I don't like the vibe of studios, I really have never liked the vibe of studios. There's no windows, it smells like weed, like…There's other artists there, you bump into them, you look stupid and then you're embarrassed that they saw you look stupid.

"I don't know. It freaks me out. It, like, truly gives me social anxiety to be in a studio…Yeah, no, it's not my gig. I don't enjoy it."

Instead, she says she prefers to record solely with her brother and collaborator Finneas.

Tom Morello Accidentally Knocked Off Stage By Security Guard

In the midst of Rage Against The Machine's show on Saturday (July 23rd) in Toronto, a fan managed to jump the barrier and run on stage, getting very close to Tom Morello. A security guard quickly acted, tackling the fan and accidentally knocking Morello off stage while the band was playing its final song, "Killing in the Name." The show has halted and Morello managed to get up and wave to the crowd, letting everyone know he was okay.

TMZ reports that earlier in the tour, Rage singer Zack de la Rocha injured his leg and has been mostly sitting down during sets.

Rage Against The Machine continues their tour tonight (Monday, July 25th) in Buffalo, NY.

Ozzy Osbourne & Tony Iommi Drop 'Degradation Rules' Track

Ozzy Osbourne has dropped the second teaser from his upcoming album, Patient Number 9, which is set for release on September 9th. The track "Degradation Rules" reunites Ozzy with Black Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi for their first teamup since Sabbath's 2016 EP, The End.

Back in 2006 at their long-overdue induction into the Rock Fame, Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne talked about the respect that Black Sabbath had eventually earned within the music industry: "(Tony Iommi): "I think it's great. I think it's taken a few years, mind (you), because I think for a while, nobody took us seriously. But, y'know, our friends in the music business and that obviously did. As we went on, the more we carried on, the more we proved, the more we stayed there, y'know? And I think we got the respect from that. (Ozzy Osbourne): I never thought anybody liked us, and people on the Ozzfest would come to me and go, 'You were really one of our inspirations.' And I didn't really, I didn't believe it, y'know?"

Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce A New Double Album

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their second album of 2022 this fall.

While performing in Denver Saturday (July 23rd) night, the band announced that the double album, Return of the Dream Canteen, will drop on October 14th.

They wrote on social media, "We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waist band of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our moody love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well we figured it out. 2 double albums released back to back."

RHCP is currently on their first-ever stadium tour in support of Unlimited Love.

Marilyn Manson Hires Attorney That Represented Harvey Weinstein & Mel Gibson

According to RadarOnline, Marilyn Manson has hired Blair Berk, a female attorney who represented Harvey Weinsten and Mel Gibson to fight ex-girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood.

As previously reported, Manson sued Wood, accusing her of fabricating abuse claims. Wood revealed that she was abused by an unnamed ex for years but named Manson in 2021. Manson has claimed that she lied and is trying to ruin him. He also revealed that he believes Wod worked with her significant other to reach out to his other exes to convince them to speak out against him. The suit said Wood even wrote a letter where she posed as an FBI agent.

Manson and Wood dated from 2007-2010.

Report: U2 Prepping 2023 Las Vegas Residency

According to numerous sources, U2 has signed on for a 2023 Las Vegas residency as the first music act the new MSG Sphere at The Venetian. Billboard reported that for concerts, the $1.8 billion MSG Sphere "can hold 20,000 standing spectators or 17,500 seated guests, with 23 VIP suites."

According to the report, "The Sphere will include 160,000 square feet of video viewing space -- Sphere officials describe the technology as 'interior immersive display' -- state-of-the-art spatial audio and an exterior exosphere that changes the building's look via fully programmable LED technology. It will connect to the Venetian Resort via an approximately 1,000-foot-long pedestrian bridge."

Construction on the Sphere is expected to begin in March 2023 with the venue opening in November 2023 with the FIA Formula One World Championship.

A while back, Bono admitted that unfortunately getting all the fans into their shows comes down to commerce -- so much so that they even released the 2007 3D film, U2 3D to satisfy demand: "Also, U2 tickets are a bit expensive. I'm just thinking of people going to high school or going to college don't have the cash. We fight to have the tickets at a reasonable price -- like at least 50, 60 percent of them -- but you know the way it goes, the tickets get sold on. . . and there's not enough of them, so. I hope for people who are just thinkin,' well, I'm kinda into that band, that they'll give us a shot and come and see what we've got."

The Edge explained that ultimately with U2, the more things change, the more they stay the same: "That's the thing about a band, you get together at age 17, 18 -- you all decide you wanna do the same thing, which is make music together, and then the years go by but you kinda still kind of maintain that same dynamic and it's, it's remarkable not so much what's changed over the years, but how little has changed over the years. Y'know, when we get into the studio, it still feels like we're making our first album. It's that same sort of intensity and combines with ambition and a little bit of desperation, as well. And you really just wanna give it your best, and nothing really much has changed over the years."

Flashback: AC/DC Releases 'Back In Black'

It was 42 years ago today (July 25th, 1980), that AC/DC released their biggest selling album ever, Back In Black. It was the band's first set without lead singer Bon Scott, who had died on February 19th, 1980 at age 33, after passing out and choking on his own vomit following a long night of drinking.+

The group quickly decided to press on and hired Brian Johnson from the band Geordie to take over on vocals, and they headed to the Bahamas for about six weeks to do the album. AC/DC had made some serious headway in America before Scott's death, but no one knew how Back In Black would be received. The album, produced by "Mutt" Lange, took off, and eventually sold over 25 million copies in the U.S. All told, Back In Black spent a whopping 22 weeks in the Billboard 200 Top Ten.

The tracklisting to AC/DC's Back In Black is: "Hells Bells," "Shoot To Thrill," "What Do You Do for Money Honey," "Given The Dog A Bone," "Let Me Put My Love Into You," "Back In Black," "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Have A Drink On Me," "Shake A Leg," and "Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution."

Angus Young told us that Bon Scott would've absolutely given his blessing to AC/DC carrying on with a new frontman: "Yeah, he was just not one of those sort of people, y'know? For us, we'd always been playing rock n' roll, and I think that people were sort of glad that we continued."

Brian Johnson admitted that he didn't have a clue how successful Back In Black would turn out to be: "I'd just melted me brain in there, and I didn't know if it was good or bad. That was the first time I'd been in the Bahamas, anyway, or near America, y'know, and you (have to) remember, I was just fascinated by the whole culture and all, and I had no idea what the hell I was doing! And (laughs) lucky, really -- I was a bit lucky, I think."

Johnson once told us that AC/DC's continued success over the years came directly from brothers Angus and the now-late Malcom Young: "Malcolm and Angus really gotta take a lot of credit for the fact that they've just stuck exactly to what the first thought about rock n' roll. . . Angus has got a lovely story. When Malcolm asked him to join the band, right at the very start, and Angus asked Malcolm, he said, 'Well, what kind of music are we gonna play?' And Malcolm looked at him, with a quizzical look in his eyes, and he went, 'rock n' roll!'"

Angus Young recently explained to us that AC/DC is like a killer recipe that always delivers, which is why the band has never changed its approach to playing live: "Somebody once had said, 'Y'know, people know what they like and like what they know.' In the beginning, we were a, y'know, just a rock n' roll band, and, y'know, when you would play in bars and clubs and stuff, y'know, this is what the audience was coming to hear you for."

Back In Black included the singles "You Shook Me All Night Long," which peaked at Number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Back In Black," which topped out at Number 37.

Despite its massive success, Back In Black never got higher than Number Four on the album charts. The band's next album, 1981's For Those About To Rock, marked the band's sole chart-topper to date.

To date, Back In Black, which has sold 25 million copies to date, is at Number Five on the list of the biggest selling albums in the U.S.
