Jason Newsted Claims Lack Of Respect Made Him Quit Metallica

Former-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted says it was his bandmates' chronic disrespect for him that forced him to walk away from the job of a lifetime. During a chat with Loudersound, Newsted, who in the past has cited the band's unbending denial of giving him time to develop his side band Echobrain, to his own addiction issues as the reason for his departure, says it was really all about respect.

Newsted explained, "The thing that set me away from Metallica is what I call 'the perpetual dis'. No matter how hard I worked, there was still disrespect. Not the hazing that I got from the first six months of my career, but the general disrespect that I got, dismissiveness. The dis and dis, I call it."

He went on to say, "It stemmed from, as a collective and as individuals, (the fact) they had never managed to deal with their grief from Cliff (Burton) when he died. This kind of s***, it manifests itself in young men's minds, young millionaires' minds. Spoilt, spoilt, spoilt millionaires' minds, and I include myself in that. . . it would be hard to get your head around that. So it was much more a personal thing. I needed to rest; they refused to give me the time to rest; I had to leave to get that rest."

Newsted left Metallica in 2001 after 14 years and told us a while back what went wrong during that time: "Nobody ever wanted to speak up and rock the boat, throw a wrench into the machine. Y'know, it was just rolling like a freaking tank over everything that came in its way, and nobody ever wanted to mess with that really. And so emotions, feelings, personal stuff, all that was kind of buried in the hole, wherever they buried it, inside themselves or somewhere else, y'know? Then people started realizing the value of things."

Frontmas Sully Erna co-produced the album with Andrew "Murdow" Murdock. Erna opened up about the album, saying, "I like when a record takes you on a journey from front to back. Slipknot's Jay Weinberg Opens Up About Hearing Loss

Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has recorded a public service announcement about hearing loss with the Hearing Health Foundation.

In the four-minute clip, Weinberg explains that as a teen, he lost all high-end frequencies in his hearing after jamming with some friends.

He said, "So I learned really quickly, at a young age, that hearing protection is an absolute must if you want any sort of longevity and sustainability in playing music. So ever since that day, I've never sat down at a kit and played the way I play without hearing protection — not even once."

Machine Gun Kelly Says He Has 'Peter Pan Syndrome'

Machine Gun Kelly says he suffers from Peter Pan syndrome. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter he compared himself to the character he plays in his upcoming movie, Taurus. Saying they were both "broken" and didn't want to grow up.

Describing how he felt, he said "You're a lost boy, but you have Wendy, and Wendy doesn't want to be with the lost boy, but she's like, 'Come back home and be a grownup with me.'"

Experts caution that Peter Pan syndrome is not an actual medical diagnosis, but more of a popular metaphor to describe adults, who feel like kids at heart.

TL;DR:

  • Machine Gun Kelly says he suffers from Peter Pan syndrome.
  • He compared himself to the character he plays in his upcoming movie, Taurus and said they were both "broken" and didn't want to grow up.

Alice In Chains Recalls Layne Staley's Sense Of Humor

Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains discussed late singer Layne Staley as they reflected on the 30th anniversary of the band's second album, Dirt. According to Variety, Cantrell said Staley was responsible for many "funny" moments while the band worked together, adding that "sarcasm was a highly prized commodity in our camp. And Layne was very human. … We were all trying to create something unique, and that can rub on a person sometimes. But that is necessary, part of the process."

Although "Dirt" has a reputation for having a depressing tone, as did Staley, Kinney argued, "Dirt was never a drug concept album. And Layne wasn't a d*ck. He wasn't tormented but instead, witty, funny and generous. … Part of that album talks about how cool it all is, then five songs later it's telling you how drugs suck."

Staley died in 2002.

The players are guys I've known since they were kids, and the music will beat the sh*t out of you."

The album will be released on January 6th.

Ozzy Osbourne Says 'Black Sabbath Is Over'

Ozzy Osbourne says that although he's done with Black Sabbath -- he'd like to continue working with co-founder Tony Iommi, according to Blabbermouth. On SiriusXM's, Ozzy Speaks show, Ozzy was asked about collaborating with Iommi on his solo track the track "Degradation Rules" from Ozzy's recent latest album, Patient Number 9: "(It) was great. I mean, now you don't have to sit in a room; you can do it over the phone. That track would have been a great Black Sabbath track on the 13 album. I wasn't really in love with that 13 album."

Regarding his lack of interest in recording or performing with Black Sabbath anymore, Ozzy said, "Well, it's kind of, like, how many times do you wanna do the same. . . it's the same format, y'know? It was very successful for a lot of years, and people wanted to see us. I did that farewell tour. And the only thing about that which was sad (was) Bill Ward wasn't there. But I've spoken to Bill since. He's all right. I would work with any of them individually. But as Black Sabbath, I think it's (over). We couldn't really beat what we've already done."

Tommy Iommi spoke a while back about the respect that Black Sabbath earned over the years: "For a while, nobody would take us seriously. But as we went on, the more we carried on, the more we proved, the more we stayed there, y'know? And I think we got the respect from that."

Greta Van Fleet Postpones More Shows Following Josh Kiszka's Ear Injury

Greta Van Fleet has postponed four more concerts in order to allow frontman Josh Kiszka more time to recover from a ruptured eardrum. The band has postponed shows in El Paso, Tucson, Anaheim and Sacramento — just weeks after the band announced the postponements of concerts in Hollywood, Florida; Tampa, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; Greenville, South Carolina; and Jacksonville, Florida.

Yesterday (November 8th), Kiszka released a video message, saying, "I just wanted to express how beautiful and how awe inspiring these couple of shows have really been — truly. Also, unfortunately, they've been rather painful."

He continued, "The last time I spoke with you, I had asked for your understanding; I was dealing with a ruptured eardrum. Unfortunately, while the eardrum continues to heal, it also has continued to cause me great deal of physical pain, which has made it very difficult to perform. I've been fighting through this for the last week now and I've been trying to push through each show. And I'm at the point where I think I need a period of time for more healing. Unfortunately, that means rescheduling the shows for the rest of this month, which kills me to do this, especially on such a short notice."

He added, "I'm truly sorry to everyone in El Paso, Tucson, Anaheim and Sacramento. This year has been an extremely humbling experience. I can't begin to thank all of you enough for your seemingly endless support and understanding.cAgain, I can't express how difficult this decision is to make, truly. I'm so, so grateful and appreciative of all the love and positivity that you all seem to have in boundless supply."

Lars Ulrich Wanted His Kids To Make Music With Friends - Not Him

The son of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich admitted he wasn't up for offering his kids music lessons early on. Myles and Layne Ulrich are the sole two members of the Taipei Houston with their debut set, Once Bit Never Bored, out now. 24-year-old Myles drums and handles guitar duties, with 21-year-old kid brother Layne singing and playing bass.

Myles told Classic Rock how the new album came about, "We kinda just ended up back in San Francisco during lockdown and had a lot of time on our hands. Being brothers, we've been making music together on and off for a long time. This felt like a real opportunity to dig deep and really focus and get into it. We started writing all the time."

When pressed as to whether his legendary dad showed his boys some tricks of the trade when they started getting interested in music, Myles admitted: "Honestly, when I started, he completely steered clear. He was like, 'Go do it with your friends or get a drum teacher!' Not because he didn't want to do it himself, but because he wanted us to find our own paths musically, which is really cool and that's what we've tried to do. I don't know if there's a soundbite piece of advice he gave us. We both came into being interested in music our own way, listening to bands like Arctic Monkeys, stuff like that."

Back in the day, Lars Ulrich explained to us that Metallica becoming parents only strengthened their bond within the band: "(James) Hetfield and me having kids at the same time roughly has even brought us closer together. I think we just see much more eye-to-eye about things in terms of touring schedules and all that type of stuff. But I think the other thing that's also happened is that projects – recording projects, creative projects – are much more, I think, both vital and interesting than they were, y'know, in the earlier days."

M. Shadows Calls Out Musicians For 'Fan Abuse'

Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows says musicians selling multiple different pressings and versions of their albums to pad chart numbers are committing "fan abuse." He tweeted, "Selling multiple versions, repackages and bundles of your album to the same fan so that you can get a chart position that no one cares about and is manipulated should be called out for what it is…. Fan Abuse."

He continued, "I'll expand: many options are fine. It's when it becomes : buy the vinyl for ticket discounts… buy the cd version 1 for an extra track. Buy first week 8 track for an exclusive t shirt. Its all bullsh*t to make you buy the same sh*t to pump numbers. Thats f*cked!"

When asked if he was talking about someone in particular, he said, "Everyone… the system…. Music as a commodity…. No art left to it… total joke."

After another Twitter user wrote,"Taylor Swift would've topped the charts on streams alone, (confirmed by the billboard charts) but sure go off," Shadows replied,"Hell yeah. A truly huge artist and she deserves it."

He later tweeted, "Btw. I wasnt even talking about Taylor… literally the furthest thing from my mind. We are getting 'options' from our label but its all a cash grab (hence the tweet)… but dont you find it strange one fan base is so upset about my tweet which names no one?"

Nazareth's Dan McCafferty Dead At 76

Original Nazareth frontman Dan McCafferty died on November 8th at the age of 76, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. McCafferty, who co-founded the band in 1968, retired back in 2013 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Bassist Pete Agnew posted of McCafferty's passing on Facebook, writing, "Dan died at 12:40 today. This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Too upset to say anything more at this time."

Scotland's Nazareth will always be best remembered in the U.S. for their 1975 Top 20 Hair Of The Dog album, with its Top 20 title track and the band's classic cover of the Everly Brothers' "Love Hurts," which peaked at Number Eight.

Ozzy Osbourne Is Having Second Thoughts About Leaving The U.S.

Ozzy Osbourne is having second thoughts about leaving the U.S. Back in September, Ozzy said that he was "fed up" with America and that his family was heading back to England because of the string of mass shootings in the U.S. He said, "Everything's f—ing ridiculous there. I'm fed up with people getting killed every day. God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings."

But it seems that he has had a change of heart. During an interview with The Observer, he said, "I'm getting a bit of flack from people." He added, "To be honest with you, if I had my way, I'd stay in America. I'm American now."

Osbourne gave a bit of context for the decision, saying that wife Sharon Osbourne getting fired from The Talk was one of the reasons the couple no longer wanted to live in the states. As previously reported, Sharon defended her friend, TV personality Piers Morgan, who had made disparaging comments about Meghan Markle.

He explained, "When my wife got called a racist on The Talk, she is absolutely not a racist. Her friend is Piers Morgan… She didn't say, ‘I agree with him.' She just respected his ability to have freedom of speech. That's all that she said. And she got a lot of flak from that, so we actually had to have f–king armed guards and all that."

Paul McCartney & Rick Rubin Rocking Out To Smash Mouth In New Viral Video???

A brilliant new video is making the rounds of Paul McCartney and producer Rick Rubin seemingly rocking out while remixing Smash Mouth's 1999 hit "Pop Star." Huffington Post reported it's the latest work of YouTube comedians Twister & Jumanj who recut McCartney and Rubin revisiting the Beatles' session tapes as part of the 2021 Grammy-nominated McCartney 3, 2, 1 Hulu mini-series.

Thanks to the hysterical re-cut, the pair are now seen rocking out and sharing their amazement at the raw session tapes for the '90s earworm, before then delving into Rick Astley's 1987 favorite, "Never Gonna Give You Up."

2022 Rock Hall Inducts Duran Duran, Judas Priest, Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie & More!!!

Saturday night (November 5th) was a night to remember with The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducting its 2022 members at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater, with an edited version of the event set to air on November 19th on HBO.

This year's Rock Hall inductees are Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, and Eminem. 2022's Musical Excellence Awards went to Judas Priest along with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

Early Influence Awards were awarded to Harry Belafonte and Elizabeth Cotten, with Ahmet Ertegun Awards going to recording engineer, producer, and executive Jimmy Iovine, R&B singer and Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, and attorney, Allen Grubman.

Sadly three inductees could not attend, with co-founding Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor revealing he is suffering from stage 4 prostate cancer. Carly Simon, who is currently in mourning after losing her two older sisters within a day of each other last month, also did not make the ceremony. The great Harry Belafonte is now 95 and too frail to travel to the ceremony.

The evening was an all-star gala with several surprise guest appearances, including Dave Grohl performing "Easy" with Lionel Richie, both Steven Tyler and Ed Sheeran appearing with Eminem, along with Pat Benatar, Simon LeBon, and Rob Halford all performing with Dolly Parton on her signature tune, "Jolene."

Appearing with Priest were former members K.K. Downing and drummer Les Binks, as well as sidelined guitarist Glenn Tipton, who has been battling Parkinson's disease.

Inductors Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp saluted the late-Jerry Lee Lewis with a show-closing medley of "The Killer's" "High School Hop" and "Great Balls Of Fire."

In one of the more memorable moments of the night, during his induction speech to entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman, John Mellencamp took time out to slam rapper Kanye West for his recent anti-Semitic remarks. Mellencamp said in part: "Guys I cannot tell you how f***ing important it is to speak out if you're an artist. Whenever you hear hate speech or something derogatory about someone else. We're all human things. I don't give a f*** if you're Jewish, black, quiet, tutti frutti, I don't care! Here's the trick: silence is complicity. I'm standing here tonight loudly and proudly and in solidarity with Allen, his family, all of my Jewish friends and the entire Jewish people of the world. F*** Antisemitism and f***anybody who says anything in that manner."

The Rock Hall streamed exclusive interviews from the event's red carpet, with Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford explaining that he looks back with pride and towards the future with equal amounts of excitement: "It's a lot of conviction, dedication, faith in what you believe in. We have this phrase in heavy metal -- 'Keep The Faith.' And that's what we've been doing for 50 years and we're still going strong and feeling pride to have that mantra working for Judas Priest."

Eurythmics singer Annie Lenox explained that the group were never confined by traditional musical boundaries: "Our influences, are again, they're really eclectic. And I think people, sort of, think that you have to be in one genre of music and you only like that genre. For our taste, it could be up for anything."

Simon LeBon is nothing but humbled by Duran Duran finally gaining entree into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: "We always thought it was a club that we'd never be part of. But -- things change and suddenly, y'know, Duran Duran's time seems to be coming 'round again. And we are welcomed as we welcome it -- with open arms."

Billie Eilish took to Instagram Saturday (November 5th) to encourage fans to vote.

The 20-year-old artist said in a video, "Our rights, our freedoms, and our futures are on the line, and if we don't show up, there is a good chance we will see a national ban on abortion, with no exceptions."

She added, "They also wanna take away the freedom to marry who we love, restrict voting rights, and enact laws that threaten the progress that must be made on climate change… It scares me."

The caption included a link to BallotReady, which assists with polling locations and other voting information.

Paul Stanley Salutes Taylor Hawkins

Paul Stanley took time out to salute late-Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins while onboard the Kiss Kruise. Blabbermouth transcribed some of Stanley's comments on the beloved drummer during the "On This Day In KISStory" Q&A where the band talks about the backstory behind various photos.

Stanley was quoted as saying, "The beauty of a great band is the chemistry between at least of the people. And Foo Fighters, that's Dave (Grohl) and Taylor. Taylor was as close to Dave as a brother. And Taylor, besides being a phenomenal drummer. . . I remember when I saw him with Alanis Morissette, I was, like, 'Jesus. Who is this guy?' And he was also a super, super guy -- one of those people that really, really loved music. And it's a tragedy; it's a terrible loss.

Regarding the photo showing them, he added: "I will remember that forever. We did a couple of things together. We did 'Do You Love Me?' and we did 'Detroit Rock City'. And Taylor kicked it in the ass. Taylor was a big fan (of Kiss). And again, nobody loved music like he did."

Items From Taylor Hawkins' Tribute Concert Will Go Up For Auction

Items from Taylor Hawkins' tribute concert will be going up for auction. According to NME.com, various pieces of gear used in two recent tribute concerts for the late Foo Fighters drummer will be auctioned off next week. Proceeds will be donated to MusiCares and Music Support.

Damiano David Opens Up About Censorship Accusations Surrounding VMA Performance

Maneskin's Damiano David has opened up about the accusations of censorship surrounding the band's performance at the MTV VMAs back in August. According to NME, photos taken during the band's performance of their hit "Supermodel," it appeared that bassist Victoria De Angelis suffered a wardrobe malfunction with her top falling down around her waist. The cameras panned away and focused on empty seats for about 40 seconds. For the rest of the performance, they frequently cut away from the band to show an aerial shot of the arena instead.

David said he puts VMAs censorship down to "prejudices towards rock bands and towards women." He added, "There is a lot to work on and we try to do our part."

He went on, "It's sad, but it's good that people then talk about it and think about it. It's stupid that there has to be this control and censorship over people's bodies."
