Chunkosaurus Rex Wins Texas Parks’ First Fat Squirrel Competition
A squirrel named Chunkosaurus Rex has claimed victory in Texas Parks and Wildlife’s inaugural Fat Squirrel Week competition. The contest, modeled after Katmai National Park’s annual Fat Bear Week, sought to identify the state’s fattest squirrel through bracket-style voting on social media. Chunkosaurus Rex from Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose defeated Chunk Norris from Fort Richardson State Park in the final round. Two other finalists, Nutella from Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Stanley “The Texas Tank” from Cleburne State Park, were eliminated earlier. “Chunkosaurus is a fan favorite at Dinosaur Valley State Park, moving surprisingly fast in the quest for acorns and camper crumbs,” Texas Parks and Wildlife said on social media. The competition celebrated native rodents as they gain weight for winter survival. (Story URL)
