Asking Alexandria's Ben Bruce Dreams Of Side Gig Called 'Sex, Drugs And Sausage Rolls'

In addition to music, Asking Alexandria co-founder Ben Bruce has a passion for cooking and says he's like to turn that into a side gig. He recently appeared on "Side Jams With Bryan Reesman" where he said he has always dreamed of having a food truck with the name of the business being Sex, Drugs And Sausage Rolls.

Bruce explained, "I feel like I've just had this idea in my head forever, which, once I tell you the name of it, you'll realize very quickly why it can't happen. Because I'll be getting all kinds of the wrong people queuing up for it. But I would love to have a food truck just with a British flag painted on the side. (We have) something in England — a fast food, quick snack called a sausage roll. And basically, it's just a puff pastry wrapped around sausage meat. So me having the background I have in music, I would love to have a food truck with the British flag paint on the side, and I want it to be called Sex, Drugs And Sausage Rolls. We'll sell all kinds of pastry snacks and stuff. My wife was just like, 'Yeah, you know who's going to be queuing up outside your food truck at two o'clock in the morning when they're drunk coming from the pub.' And I won't have sex or drugs. I'll just have the sausage rolls. And I don't think it will be as quite as successful."

Earlier this year, Asking Alexandria released a new EP called Never Gonna Learn.

The band charted their first-ever Number One at U.S. active rock radio at the end of 2021 with "Alone Again."

The Black Crowes Drummer Sues Band Over Unpaid Royalties

The Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman has filed a lawsuit against Chris Robinson and the band over unpaid royalties. Gorman claims he has not received the proper amount of money from past albums and is suing for back royalties.

He told TMZ, "For more than five years, my attorneys and I have made repeated requests to review the Partnership's books to confirm the accuracy of royalty payments and my share, but Chris and Rich have consistently ignored my rights under the Partnership Agreement."

Gorman added, "I regret that it has come to this, as I remain incredibly proud of the music we created as a band, but their conduct has left me with no choice but to ask a court to order them to give me this information, which I'm entitled to under our partnership agreement and the law."

The Black Crowes have not issued a public response to the lawsuit at press time.

Taylor Hawkins' Heartbreaking Last Text To John Stamos, Get Together 'Before We die'

Celebrities have been posting memories of the late Taylor Hawkins since his sudden death last week. And actor, John Stamos of Full House fame, shared his last text message the Foo Fighters' drummer.

The two had been trying to spend some time together and Taylor wrote: "We've yet to fully have a hang - Got a put that s*** together before we die."

Stamos, who also lost his friend and co-star Bob Saget in January, later shared a throwback video of Hawkins pretending to be upset with him for getting a Geico commercial instead of himself, in which Stamos flipped a knitting needle like a drumstick.

In a statement shared to Instagram, the Foo Fighters' remaining members, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel, and Rami Jaffee remembered Hawkins for "his musical spirit" and "infectious laughter."

For the time being, Foo Fighters have ended their tour of South America.

Chris Jericho Says Fozzy Avoids Political, Social Messages In Music

The band Fozzy will never use their platform to spread political or social messages. That's according to lead singer Chris Jericho, who recently told Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez, "You have the wrong band if you're looking for those subject matters in our music. We do not ever, nor have we ever, been a political band . . . You don't really want that in your rock 'n' roll."

Jericho added, "I mentioned Rush earlier, Iron Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC — if I ever heard AC/DC talking about COVID, I would f**king be so sad."

Fozzy's mission is to provide entertainment and fun. Jericho explained, "There's a lot of issues in the world prior to COVID, during COVID, after COVID . . . I think when people come to a rock 'n' roll show, you don't really want that kind of pushed in your face. At least you don't want that at a Fozzy gig. I think what we do is provide a little bit of a diversion and an outlet to blow off some steam if those things or other things are bothering you in your life. I think that's a huge responsibility and I take it very seriously."

Fozzy will release a new album called Boombox on April 15th.

Flashback: Led Zeppelin Releases 'Presence'

It was 46 years ago today (March 31st) that Led Zeppelin released it's seventh album, Presence. The collection, which topped the Billboard 200 album charts for two weeks, included the instant radio classic, "Nobody's Fault But Mine," and featured one single released for the U.S. market, "Candy Store Rock," which failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Presence, like all of Zeppelin's works, was produced by Jimmy Page, and featured 10 tracks -- nine of which were written by Page and Robert Plant, with the rocker "Royal Orleans," being a group effort with the addition of John Paul Jones and John Bonham.

Robert Plant, who had sustained serious injuries in August of 1975 during a car crash on the Greek island of Rhodes, was forced to record the majority of his vocals while confined to a wheelchair.

On December 10th, 2007, at their reunion concert featuring Jason Bonham at London's O2 Arena, the band chose the Presence fan favorite, "For Your Life" to make its world live premiere -- marking the only song played that evening that John Bonham had never tackled in front of an audience.

The tracklisting to Presence is: "Achilles Last Stand," "For Your Life," "Royal Orleans," "Nobody's Fault But Mine," "Candy Store Rock," "Hots On For Nowhere," and "Tea For One."

Jimmy Page shed some light as to why Presence has such a timeless and powerful sound even four decades later: "It's a really intense album, I know that much. But the process, yet again, it was a success, and the process was to have a different engineer, and to have -- well actually, Keith Harwood had worked with us on mixing during the process of Physical Graffiti, but he hadn't recorded too many of the tracks. But this was a concentrated effort, again -- like going into Headley Grange was a concentrated effort -- going into the Musicland (Studios) in Munich was a concentrated effort of basically three weeks, so it was intense. I was definitely living, sleeping, breathing, eating the music all the way through."

The performance and production of Presence is the most taught sounding collection in the Zeppelin catalogue -- a fact attributed to it being recorded and mixed in only 18 days. Page credited the band's pre-production for much of its success: "It's a guitar album, that's a guitar album of many colors. We'd routined the whole of the structure, or, what was going to be the basic backing track; the backbone of it in L.A. And I'd keep adding all these sections, ‘and I must do this, I must do that,' but all the time in my mind, I had these ideas of what I was going to do. When we got into Munich, once we recorded it, the guys went off to a club that night, and I thought -- ‘I'm just gonna go ahead, I'm gonna get. . . see if I can do it' -- and I did. And out was like I was channeling out all these overdubs and it becomes, like a guitar orchestra, and it's all done in one night."

Jimmy Page, who was mainly known for using a Fender Telecaster and Gibson Les Paul during Zeppelin's mid-'70s sessions, recorded a number of parts for Presence on the Fender Stratocaster. We asked Page if he recalled specifically any of the songs he used the Strat for: "'For Your Life.' For example, that's one that's a Strat. Between. . . It's between the Strat and the Les Paul."

Jimmy Page explained that Presence truly represents the band perfectly at that point in time: "Because of the performance. Because we went in there and the whole thing's depending on the performance and the delivery of whatever it is. The performance of the group ensemble. But as far as the performance of Robert (Plant's) vocals, or the guitar overdubs, or John Paul Jones applying this, that, or the other, that's what it is."

Designer Aubrey Powell recalled how his commercial art design company Hipgnosis came about constructing the Presence album cover: "Presence -- that's an interesting story, because Led Zeppelin, particularly Jimmy Page, would never give us an inkling about anything. He would. . . I'd say, ‘Okay Jim, what's the music?' -- Y'can't hear it.' ‘Okay, what's the title?' -- 'I haven't got one.' ‘Well, is there anything I can go on?' -- ‘No. Just come up with some interesting ideas.' (I thought) Well, what about a symbol of something. Some energizing source. Without that you can't function. Wherever you are, you have to have it."

Robert Plant said that performing the band's 1976 Presence classic "For Your Life" for the first time onstage was a definite highlight of Zeppelin's 2007 one-off reunion show for him: "Just like Jason, I was amazed I was there playing with Led Zeppelin. And I was just saying, 'Now, where does the vocal come in?' And I know I made a couple of errors -- 'just had to shut up instead of doing too much. But. . . I think that was my favorite part of the show, to be honest. Because we were. . . none of us could bring too much back from ever having ever played it before. It was a great experience and that is flying by the seat of the pants. These guys did such a great job on that. It was very exciting. Great light show, too."

On July 31st, 2015 Presence was reissued with five archival tracks:

"Two Ones Are Won" ("Achilles Last Stand" - Reference Mix)
"For Your Life" (Reference Mix)
"10 Ribs & All/Carrot Pod Pod (Pod)" (Reference Mix)
"Royal Orleans" (Reference Mix)
"Hots On For Nowhere" (Reference Mix)

Roger Daltrey Recalls Being With Jimi Hendrix The Weekend Before He Died

Roger Daltrey revealed that he spent time with Jimi Hendrix only days before his September 18th, 1970 death at age 27. At the time, Hendrix -- a labelmate of Daltrey's -- and his girlfriend Devon Wilson were staying with the Who frontman and his fiancee Heather Taylor at their home in the English countryside. Taylor and Hendrix had previously been involved with each other, with the guitarist writing "Foxey Lady" about her.

During a chat to BBC Radio and transcribed by American Songwriter, Daltrey spoke about the visit in September 1970: "No one knows about it but myself and about three other people that are still alive. This is the weekend before he died. I was on tour in Germany, and Jimi and his friend, Devon Wilson, came to my cottage in Berkshire. At my house was my wife-to-be Heather and another girl called Katherine."

Daltrey went on to recall, "He and Devon were doing this thing, which gospel singers do, and they were doing it with a call and answer -- and they were doing it with Bob Dylan lyrics. So he quotes one line and she'd quote the other. . . but it gradually slowed down, slowed down until Devon finally fell asleep."

He recalled Heather telling him it was "obvious that Jimi was taking more and more barbiturates and his speech became slurred. Then he passed out, and then now they're starting to get worried." Daltrey remembered him, Heather, and Katherine putting Hendrix to bed and "took his boots off at around 2 a.m."

Daltrey then explained the heavily sedated rock legend popped up from a drug induced stupor: "They put the kettle on for a cup of tea and blow me if 10 minutes later he doesn't appear in the doorway with his boots back on, his hat on all skew-whiff and says, 'Right I'm ready for the interview.' I mean, you can't make it up."

By 11 a.m. the next morning, Hendrix and his guest were on their way back to London via cab: "That was that weekend and as I say, he was as right as rain in the morning like nothing had happened."

Both the Who and Jimi Hendrix were signed in Britain to Track Records -- which was owned by the Who's managers, Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. Pete Townshend's overriding memory of 1967's Monterey Pop Festival was that once again, the Who were to be pitted against the Jimi Hendrix Experience -- an act that they had performed with numerous times in England over the preceding six months: "When we went to play Monterey, y'know, (Jimi) Hendrix was doing the show at the same time. And we'd already been exposed to, what I felt, was very, very unfair competition with Hendrix in the UK, 'cause of our relationship. He was on our record label. And at that particular time, a group of London managers were trying to create a, kind of, cartel -- so every time we played he was on the bill with us. Y'know, it was just awful, y'know, trying to match to this really great, great genius."

Foo Fighters Cancel All Concert Dates

With the sudden death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters have decided to cancel all scheduled concerts. The group was set to be on the road in North America and Down Under from May through December. There has been no mention of any future recording or performing plans.

Hawkins also allegedly had 10 different drugs in his system during the postmortem.

The Columbian newspaper Semana reported Hawkins suffered cardiovascular collapse "after binging on a cocktail of drugs." The surviving Foo Fighters returned to Los Angeles on Sunday (March 27th).

The Foo Fighters' official statement reads:

It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins.

We're sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won't be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let's take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we've made together.

Perry Farrell Salutes Taylor Hawkins

Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell took to Instagram to post a video saluting late-Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins, who died on March 25th at age 50 after suffering an alleged drug overdose in Columbia, was a diehard fan of Jane's and a longtime confidante of Farrell's.

Blabbermouth transcribed some of Farrell's online salute to his fallen friend: "Taylor Hawkins died yesterday. He was my best friend -- beloved in my home by my wife, my children, even my dogs. Whenever Taylor came over, we would make music in the den, (my dog) Cloud would always go and sit right by him. He was one of the most passionate drummers I've ever seen in my lifetime. When I think of him, I sum it up with one word: velocity. He had the gift to maintain a confident, striking and stroking velocity on drums."

Farrell went on to say, "There's a large part of my heart that I had reserved for him. I accepted him into my heart when we became friends because he was such a pure guy, so pure of heart. I would receive texts from Taylor. They were always bits and pieces of songs he was writing or looking to write or wanted me to listen to. I got music tidbits as often as I got 'I love you's.' We would always start with a song; Like, 'Do you listen to YES? The guy kind of sounds like you.' And I say, 'Yeah, yeah. I like YES.' He just was obsessed with music and great songs. My passion for music, that's what's our common ground; our friendship was based around that. Then we got to know each other."

He added: "He would tell me stories of going to Jane's shows back in the '80s -- shows that were pretty underground. So although I didn't make his acquaintance back then, we shared a history. It's almost like the rites of passage. We were young men and we were trying to be great musicians. Little did he know through this one fatal night, he would cement himself in the legends of music for all time. And that's what I think he deserves."

Perry Farrell ended by saying, "The only sense that I can make of the tragedy is to know that Taylor's now in heaven; he can hear us. What I'm gonna do from this day forward is to try to make music that I think Taylor would really love."

During Foo Fighters' 2021 Rock hall induction, during the band's acceptance speech, Taylor Hawkins made a point of mentioning the need for Jane's Addiction to also be inducted: ["I'd like to share this award with a couple of bands I'd like to see get in there someday, too. I'd like to see George Michael in there one day. I'd love that (cheers). I'd like to see Jane's Addiction in there -- I'd really like that (cheers). I'd like to see Soundgarden in there -- I'd really like that. And thanks everyone."] SOUNDCUE (:19 OC: . . . and thanks everyone)

Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Dead At 50

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died on Friday, March 25th of an apparent drug overdose at age 50. Ultimate Classic Rock reported Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Bogota, Columbia where the band was booked to play that night at the Festival Estereo Picnic.

According to a statement issued by The Office of the Attorney General of Colombia after a preliminary toxicology report reportedly found 10 substances – including marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids in the drummer's bloodstream.

Bogata's Secretariat of Health was quoted as stating an ambulance was sent to the band's hotel and that "Hawkins was suffering chest pains."

According to Britain's Daily Mail, Hawkins is said to have had a "heart (that) weighed double that of men his age (weighing) least 600 grams, double the average of 300 to 350 grams." The Columbian newspaper Semana reported Hawkins suffered cardiovascular collapse "after binging on a cocktail of drugs." The surviving Foo Fighters returned to Los Angeles on Sunday (March 27th).

During Mammoth WVH's show on Saturday night show at Boston's Big Night Live, an emotional Wolfgang Van Halen dedicated the Foo Fighters' "My Hero" to Hawkins. That same night in Des Moines, Iowa, Elton John spoke fondly of recently recording with Hawkins and said before dedicating "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me": "I got up this morning to see that Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters had passed away, and I was so shocked because he played on my Lockdown Sessions album and he was one of the nicest people you could ever meet and one of the greatest drummers and a true musician who loved all sorts of music and loved life. And it seems so sad that at 50 years of age we've lost someone who had that much passion. And it makes me so downhearted for his family -- his three children, his wife, his other relatives and, of course, the Foo Fighters, who've lost a dearest loved one that can never, ever be replaced."

The band announced Hawkins death via social media wth a simple statement that read:

The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely death of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, tweeted a tribute to Hawkins posting, "A ferocious drummer, dedicated father, and dear friend gone far too soon. Sending love to Taylor Hawkins' family and fans of the Foo Fighters everywhere."

Taylor Hawkins was born Oliver Taylor Hawkins on February 17th, 1972 in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in the exclusive enclave of Laguna, California. He is survived by his wife Alison and their three children, Oliver, Annabelle, and Everleigh. Along with the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Paul McCartney in 2021.

Hawkins, who was born in Texas and raised in California broke on the national scene as Alanis Morrisette's drummer on her massive world tour behind her 1995 blockbuster, Jagged Little Pill. Since joining the Foos in 1997 he performed on the band's classic run of albums -- There Is Nothing Left To Lose (1999), One By One (2002), In Your Honor (2005), Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007), Wasting Light (2011), Sonic Highways (2014), Saint Cecilia (2015), Concrete And Gold (2017), and Medicine At Midnight (2021).

Starting in 2006, Hawkins released a trio albums with his solo set, Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders and in 2013 formed the cover band, Chevy Metal.

Last year, Taylor Hawkins spoke to Kerrang! and shed light on coming of age in the late-'70s and early-'80s. He admitted he still considers the era's drummers his primary inspirations: "It was such a good time to be influenced by drummers. I would steal stuff wholesale from Neil Peart licks, to Phil Collins and Alex Van Halen. Even the stuff that was on the radio, there was so much good music. Even the bad music was good back then."

Taylor Hawkins told us a while back that the Foos always went into the studio with the intent of topping their last album: "Always, every time. I mean, you always want every one of 'em to be the best one you've ever done, and you always think you haven't done your best one, and y'know, although it's arguable to some people, we still feel that way. Y'know, I still think we haven't done, written our 'Hotel California' yet or whatever, y'know, our 'Bohemian Rhapsody' or whatever. So y'know, you should always be a little scared every time."

Over the years, Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins have played with some of their heroes -- including Queen, Rush, Paul McCartney, and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, to name a few. Hawkins told us a while back that it's the ultimate charge playing alongside his musical idols: "Not only do you get to just, like, pinch yourself -- 'Wow, I'm in the room with this person' -- but you also get to kind of try and soak up a little bit of what they do musically, y'know? It's neat. It really is amazing, and you really get to be in the presence of greatness when you're with people like that."

Not too long ago, Taylor Hawkins' shed light on his 2001 drug overdose: "Y'know, the thing is, I spent my 20's trying to remain a child, and then I spent my 30's trying to become an adult. Y'know, it was a wild time, and I was a wild idiot, out of my mind, and wasn't really ready to try and grow up a little bit, y'know, and realize, y'know, what's kind of important."

Taylor Hawkins confided to us a while back that even though he's spent years on the road, he still gets nervous before going on stage: "The drummer's got the hardest job, man. If the drummer falls apart at any given moment, you're done. The band, it's over. It sounds awful, you have to start again. So, I mean, I feel a lot more pressure behind the drums even though that's all I've been doing my whole life is play drums. I still have massive stage fright every night."

THE ROCK COMMUNITY SALUTES TAYLOR HAWKINS

Jimmy Page: "On this day I learned the sad news that Taylor Hawkins had passed. I had seen and heard Taylor play the drums many times with foo fighters - he shone within his powerful role in the band. After the Led Zeppelin show at the O2, I was invited to play at Wembley Stadium with the Foo Fighters on 7th June 2008. We played Rock and Roll with Taylor on turbocharged vocals and Dave on drums and then for Ramble On they swapped, with Taylor on drums and Dave Grohl on vocals. We put in some serious versions of these two songs. It was so good to play with him. I really admired him and he was a brilliant musician: his technique, his energy and spirited enthusiasm. On this sad day, I would like to send my condolences to his family, his band members in the Foos and his fans."

Mick Jagger: "So incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Taylor Hawkins. My thoughts are with his family and the band at this time."

Stewart Copleand: "This is tragic news. Taylor was a force of life, with a forward momentum that seemed unstoppable. He was all energy and cheerful enthusiasm. It's inconceivable that he is gone."

Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson: "We are so very shocked and saddened to hear the devastating news of the sudden passing of our musical brother Taylor Hawkins. He was such an incredibly positive source of music, energy and love, and a true artist to his very core...there are simply no words to adequately express just how much he will be missed by all - including Alex, myself and the entire Rush family."

Lars Ulrich: "Thank you Taylor. Thank you for always having the biggest warmest smile on your face and for lighting up every room with your infectious energy and good vibes. At BottleRock recently, I had the best seat in the house right above you and once again stood in amazement watching as you effortlessly steered Foo Fighters through a two hour festival set with the perfect balance of swing, swagger, bounce and insane chops. Your phone call a week ago touched and inspired me and I will always be appreciative for you championing our community as in your parting words…. 'Drummers stick together!' Damn right brother. Except now the community is lesser without you."

Pearl Jam: "Long live Taylor Hawkins. He enriched my life tremendously as a dear friend and fellow musician. He brought so much joy to the world of music, he will be forever missed. Our deepest condolences to Alison, Shane, Annabelle and Everleigh Hawkins and to the entire Foo Fighters family."

Stevie Nicks: "He always came to my shows. He and his best friend Dave even let me be a Foo Fighter for a little while. We recorded a kick ass version of 'Gold Dust Woman' (live) and at the end of the song I yelled out 'Best 'Gold Dust Woman' ever' And I meant it. Taylor was very handsome and he was very cute. Sometimes that combination is way better than 'beautiful.' I think it's everything. He had a huge heart and a glorious smile. When he walked into the room, everyone looked up. When he left the room, everyone was sad…"

And I thought you were crazy but you gave me so much hope and determination. Years later we toured together with Blink and Foo's in Australia and I have the best memories of smoking cigarettes in the restroom of flights we were on together and watching your set every night. EP From Dave Grohl's Fictional Thrash Band Expected Today

The music from Dave Grohl's fictional thrash band Dream Widow will be released as a digital EP today (March 25th), with physical formats coming at a later date. The Dream Widow music was featured prominently in the recent Foo Fighters horror comedy film, Studio 666, which is now available on demand.

Last month, Grohl -- as self proclaimed "f***ing '80s thrash-metal kid" told Rolling Stone he's been heavily influenced by the bands he worshiped back in the day: "I have my favorites. You'll hear a lot of those influences in 'Lacrimus dei Ebrius' (a 13-minute metal epic performed in the film) because for that song, I put maybe four or five of these sections together in this big, long thing."

Dave Grohl, who back in 2004, released his own all-star thrash project called Probot, told us a while back what attracted him to that sound: "All of this music had that passion and aggression and power and energy of the punk rock and the hardcore, but it was, the musicality was more established, and the songs were songs, and it was really interesting, and it had that power and vibe, but it was more sinister and kind of dark. So, I just started buying as many of these records as I could find."
