Ted Nugent Slams Taylor Hawkins For Being A Drug User

Ted Nugent has taken a pretty broad swipe at late-Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in his online webcast "The Nightly Nuge." The conservative the tea totaling rocker spoke about Hawkins, who died on March 25th at age 50 after suffering an alleged drug overdose in Columbia.

Blabbermouth transcribed some of Nugent's rant on the drummer, in which he said, "It's heartbreaking on so many levels. 50-years-old with a horrible, long-term celebration of substance abuse. I'm not. . . Well, I am casting judgment because substance abuse is selfish. His wife and daughter, they should have been taken into consideration. Is spending time with your wife and daughter more important than getting high or less important than getting high?"

Nugent went on to discuss his connections with various musicians who met their demise from substance abuse , recalling, "I told Jimi Hendrix, I said, 'No, I don't want your dope, and it's gonna kill you, Jimi.' Bon Scott would come to the studio when my band was recording 'Weekend Warriors' out of Miami and AC/DC was coming in (and working on) 'Highway To Hell' -- just phenomenal musical powers. And he'd come in drunk every day with a (bottle of) Jack Daniel's or an Old Grand-Dad (whiskey) and he'd go, 'Hey, Teddy, try some of this.' And he smelled like a diaper. What a talent. What a nice guy. These were all nice guys."

Nugent went on to say, "So, if you loved Taylor Hawkins -- I loved him; I loved the man; I still love him. But I love his wife and daughter more. Because they didn't break his heart; he broke their heart. . . So, God rest Taylor Hawkins's soul and all those stoners and drunks that died prematurely. Thank God for every day you're above ground. Breathe deep, concentrate on the positive and show reverence for your gift of life and your sacred temple. Do not poison your sacred temple. It's that simple."

Pink Floyd Releases First New Song In 28 Years For Ukranian Aid

Today (April 8th) Pink Floyd have released the new track "Hey Hey Rise Up" in support of the people of Ukraine, The track marks the band's first new music since 1994's The Division Bell. The song features Floyd members David Gilmour and Nick Mason joined by long time bassist Guy Pratt and Nitin Sawhney on keyboards -- along with a vocal performance by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox. The track, recorded on March 30th, uses Andriy's vocals taken from his Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cae5TydPAxh/) of him singing in Kyiv's Sofiyskaya Square.

According to the song's press release, "The song itself 'The Red Viburnum In The Meadow' is a rousing Ukrainian protest song written during the first world war which has been taken up across the world over the past month in protest of the invasion of Ukraine. The title of the Pink Floyd track is taken from the last line of the song which translates as 'Hey hey rise up and rejoice.'"

Gilmour, who has a Ukrainian daughter-in-law and grandchildren said: "We, like so many, have been feeling the fury and the frustration of this vile act of an independent, peaceful democratic country being invaded and having its people murdered by one of the world's major powers."

He went on to shed light on how he became aware of Andriy and his band Boombox: "In 2015, I played a show at Koko in London in support of the Belarus Free Theatre, whose members have been imprisoned. Pussy Riot and the Ukrainian band, Boombox, were also on the bill. They were supposed to do their own set, but their singer Andriy had visa problems, so the rest of the band backed me for my set -- we played 'Wish You Were Here' for Andriy that night. Recently I read that Andriy had left his American tour with Boombox, had gone back to Ukraine, and joined up with the Territorial Defense. Then I saw this incredible video on Instagram, where he stands in a square in Kyiv with this beautiful gold-domed church and sings in the silence of a city with no traffic or background noise because of the war. It was a powerful moment that made me want to put it to music."

While writing the music for the track, David managed to speak with Andriy from his hospital bed in Kyiv where he was recovering from a mortar shrapnel injury. "I played him a little bit of the song down the phone line and he gave me his blessing. We both hope to do something together in person in the future. . . I hope (this song) will receive wide support and publicity. We want to raise funds for humanitarian charities, and raise morale. We want express our support for Ukraine and in that way, show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become."

The album features the band's performance during their 2021 livestream event which was broadcast from The Palladium in Worcester in the band's home state of Massachusetts. In advance of the release, Killswitch Engage have shared a clip for their single "Know Your Enemy."

Band member Jesse Leach said, "This song speaks volumes about the state of the world, not only when I wrote the lyrics, but today, as well. It shines a light on the various protest songs we've written over the years. To me, the message is equally important as the music, and this song is no exception. And regardless of who we have become as a band, we still have our roots firmly planted in hardcore music."

Heavy Consequence reports this is the first time the concert's audio has been officially released. It is being offered digitally, 2-LP vinyl, and 2-CD/Blu-Ray.

Machine Gun Kelly Throws Up At Backstreet Boys Concert, Screams Were Too Intense

While being interviewed by Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys laughed about the time Machine Gun Kelly threw up at one of their concerts.

They were quick to point out that it wasn't their music that made him nauseous. Instead, Machine Gun Kelly said it was because it was so intense and the girls were screaming so loud, that he just suddenly threw up. It happened as the boys band made their grand entrance on their Millennium Tour.

Member, AJ McLean said, "It's a different kind of energy, and we thrive on that energy, you know? I mean, don't get me wrong, our kids were so happy that we were home for this last two years, but … our wives were like, ‘You have to go back to work. Please go back to work.'"

Backstreet Boys DNA World Tour continues April 8 in Las Vegas.

Mammoth WVH Pulls Out Of Dirty Honey Dates Due To Covid

Wolfgang Van Halen has been forced to scrap the remaining shows on Mammoth WVH's tour with Dirty Honey, after members of the band's team tested positive for Covid. The next scrapped dates on the itinerary are -- April 8th in Nashville, Tennessee; April 9th in Dothan, Alabama; and April 10th and 12th in Orlando, Florida.

GuitarWorld.com posted: "Despite Mammoth WVH's cancelation of their shows, Dirty Honey will still perform as scheduled on these dates. For fans who bought tickets chiefly to see Mammoth WVH, refunds are available at point of purchase."

Mammoth WVH will be back on the road later this month for a string of dates -- including four shows in support of Halestorm.

Wolfgang Van Halen's message reads in full:

After an incredible weekend in Las Vegas with my family for the Grammys, I flew back yesterday to meet up with my band and crew in North Carolina to continue the Young Guns tour. This morning as everyone took Covid tests to re-establish the bubble that has served us on the tour, we came to find that members of our band and crew who didn't travel with me were positive.

I have tested negative via rapid and PCR tests for the last five days in preparation for the Grammys and still continue to do so. With only six shows left in the tour, it breaks my heart that we unfortunately won't be able to continue. Mammoth WVH will do our very best to make up the dates that we missed to the fans in those markets in the future.

Aerosmith Guitarist Says New Album Not In The Cards

Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford doesn't foresee the band returning to the studio any time soon. Aerosmith resumes its Las Vegas "Deuces Are Wild" residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM, beginning June 17th, with a total of 24 dates played before the end of 2022.

During a chat with Classic Rock magazine, Whitford was asked if there were plans to record a followup to 2012's Music From Another Dimension: "Unfortunately, no. I've made some efforts to get the band back into the studio, and for whatever reason it just doesn't work out. In Las Vegas there was a studio right across the street, but (the creative process) can't be forced. The light switch has to come on. I'd like to think it could still happen, but right now it just hasn't."

With Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Joey Kramer all having published memoirs about their time in Aerosmith, Brad Whitford was asked if he's ever thought about doing the same, and admitted, "I've given that subject a lot of thought, but how do I tell the same story in a different way? I won't just regurgitate what people have already read. I do have a concept in mind, a more personal approach that would involve my growing up and also talking to some of the people who helped with our success."

Whitford was pressed about Joey Kramer's involvement in the band after the drummer announced he was taking a hiatus from the band during its 2022 dates: "(After a long silence) "I'm not sure how to answer that. I don't know how it will play out. It's been almost two years since we played last, (a residency) in Las Vegas, and we had a very difficult time then. All of us are getting older, and health issues make things difficult."

Brad Whitford told us he's comfortable with the numbers that Aerosmith are hitting with its recent releases, especially since they're no longer reaching the same demographic they were during their '90s heyday: "A majority of young people that buy records -- which is the people that buy records, really -- are so heavily influenced by so many other genres of music and stuff. And I think we're moving out of that a little bit -- probably not as bad as the Stones had it, because they were never huge album sellers anyway. You start to move into a time where there's just no way you're going to catch certain younger kids just because of how old you are. You can't do it."

Five Finger Death Punch Reveal Their New Album Is Finished

Five Finger Death Punch have put the finishing touches on their career ninth studio album, according to a post on their social media on Monday (April 4th). The band has yet to announce a release date for the project, which is the follow-up to their last album, F8, which was released in 2020.

Five Finger Death Punch also released a lyric video for "Brighter Side of Grey," the last song on F8 which is especially meaningful for singer Ivan Moody. The post read in part, "Brighter Side of Grey was an important song on that record, but especially personal to Ivan (who's the only parent in the band). It is a more than fitting commentary to what's going on in the world that probably needs a good reminder right about now that we are here only for second, a tiny blip on the flow of time… not just as individuals but as an entire species…"

The band added that the track "also serves as the perfect bridge to our new album we just finished this week, which generally revolves around similar existential questions to those addressed on F8. …"

Five Finger Death Punch is set to kick off their summer tour dates on May 19th in Daytona, FL.

Elle King On Country Success: 'I've Never Felt Pressure From Country World'

Elle King is closing in on the Number One spot on the country charts with "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" featuring Miranda Lambert. This is her first Country single, although the duet has also been a hit on the rock and pop charts, proving Elle's theory that music is genreless.

She tells us that while her foundation is in rock, the country genre has been very welcoming. "It's beautiful because no one has said you have to sound like this and you have to do it with a little bit of a twang. I've never felt any pressure from the country world. I've felt only acceptance and excitement, which is really awesome, and I think like these definitions people have put on themselves it's like a crutch, and we take that away and we just make music that people want to hear and I think that 'Drunk' is a great gift of that it's something that everyone can relate to."

Elle is getting ready for a string of dates in Canada with Chris Stapleton on his All-American Road Show beginning later this month.

Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Jon Bon Jovi, Madonna, U2, Pearl Jam, Elton John, and Steve Nicks are among those set to participate on Friday, April 8th for the Global Citizen's social media rally in support of the Ukraine and other nations in desperate need of aid.

Rolling Stone reported the online Stand Up for Ukraine event takes place a day before "a pledging summit organized by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen. The aim of the summit will be to garner money to help those displaced by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Funds will also be directed to helping those in other conflict zones around the world, such as Yemen, South Sudan, and Afghanistan.

Other artists expected to perform are Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Green Day, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Fall Out Boy, Kesha, Padma Lakshmi, Panic! At The Disco, Rufus Wainwright, Weezer, Rita Ora, K.D. Lang, Ellen DeGeneres, Ellie Goulding, Arlo Parks, Celine Dion, Hugh Jackman, Juanes, Garth Brooks, the Jonas Brothers, Kacey Musgraves, Pharrell, Tame Impala, Chris Rock, Jon Batiste, Alejandro Sanz, and Demi Lovato, among others.

President Zelenskyy called on the international community on behalf of his citizens who have been displaced and injured by the war, saying, "On April 9, the biggest online event 'Social Media Rally' will support people who were forced to flee Ukraine. I'm inviting everybody: musicians, actors, athletes, businessmen, politicians, everybody. Everyone who wants to join this movement and 'Stand Up for Ukraine.'"

Bruce Springsteen has long felt that the job he does is one that's existed through the ages -- long before arenas, albums, and MTV: "If you look at the role of storytellers in communities, y'know, going back to the beginning of time, y'know, they played a sort of. . . you played a very functional role in assisting the community in making sense of its experience, sense of the world around them, charting parts of their lives, getting through parts of their lives. I was interested in sort of the eternal role of storyteller-songwriter and how I was going to perform that function best."

Joe Elliott Explains Def Leppard's '11th Hour' Masterpieces

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott told us that the genesis of the band's new single, "Kick," is not that far off from how the band stumbled upon its classic "Pour Some Sugar On Me" from 1987's Hysteria.

"Kick" -- the lead single from the band's upcoming album, Diamond Star Halo, which drops on May 27th -- came about in nearly the same exact way the band's signature Top Two hit did 35 years ago: "Phil (Collen) rang me up and said, 'I've got this other song -- but we're done.' Well, it's open-ended; there's no delivery date, there's no record deal. And we better go band-wide with this and I think Sav (Rick Savage) was the first to comment: 'OMG -- 'Sugar' anyone?' (Laughs) What that was, was he wasn't comparing the song to the song -- he was comparing the situation to the situation. Back in 1986, '(Pour Some) Sugar (On Me)' was the last song written for Hysteria. We were done. It was an 11-track record -- finished. And then the idea of '. . . Sugar' came along and it became, arguably, the most important songs on the record -- if not our entire career."

Def Leppard hits the road with Motley Crue, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts on June 16th at Atlanta's SunTrust Park

Foo Fighters Grammy Sweep Underscores Band Tragedy

The Foo Fighters' Grammy sweep on Sunday night (April 3rd) only underscores the tragedy of Taylor Hawkins' recent death. Hawkins died on March 25th at age 50 after suffering an alleged drug overdose in Columbia, forcing the band to scrap all scheduled performances -- including the band's performance in Las Vegas at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, which aired live on CBS.

The Foos swept all the categories they were nominated in snagging the Best Rock Performance Grammy for "Making A Fire," Best Rock Song for "Waiting On A War" and Best Rock Album for Medicine At Midnight. The new awards bring the Foos' total Grammy tally up to 15.

For fans, Taylor Hawkins death marked the end of an era that featured such high profile band and Dave Grohl activities as the pair of 2021 docuseries From Cradle To Stage and Dave Grohl's What Drives Us, Grohl's memoir The Storyteller - Tales Of Life And Music, the 30th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind -- and its accompanying box set, Foo Fighters' 10th studio album, the Top Three Medicine At Midnight, their 2021 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by none other than Paul McCartney, and most recently the release of the band's first movie, the horror-comedy, Studio 666 -- along with Dave Grohl's accompanying fictional band recording Dream Widow.

Not too long ago, Dave Grohl told us a while back that he's always amazed at the recognition: "When you get nominated for, like, Album Of The Year, it's almost, like, a fluke. It's like, 'Really? Just us? Our little band?' y'know? So it's amazing, it's a good feeling. It still feels weird, y'know, because we still feel like we're in the basement studio in Virginia."

Black Veil Brides Bowed Out Of Weekend Show Due To Covid

Black Veil Brides dropped out of a weekend show on their co-headlining Trinity of Terror Tour with Motionless In White & Ice Nine Kills after lead singer Andy Biersack and "several other members" of the band's touring crew tested positive for COVID. Biersack shared the news on the band's socials over the weekend addressing their Sunday (April 3rd) show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

He wrote, "Oshkosh, it is with great sadness that I share that BVB will not be able to perform tonight. Last night after the show in Chicago I started to feel an awful sickness come on out of the blue and developed a high fever and chills. Unfortunately after multiple tests it is clear that both me and several other members of the BVB touring crew currently have tested positive for Covid. For obvious reasons and out of an abundance of caution we will be taking time away from the tour until we cleared to play again. MIW, INK and Lilith Czar will still be performing each night but should you want a refund for your ticket they will be available at your point of purchase. We are truly sorry for this awful situation and promise to make it up to any of you looking forward to seeing us as part of the TOT tour as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and we can't wait to get back out onstage to sing with you all soon."

The Trinity of Terror Tour played in Fargo, ND last night, and at press time, Black Veil Brides were still scheduled to go on as planned.

Metallica Donates $500,000 From Their Charity To Feed Ukrainian Refugees

Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation has donated $500,000 to the World Central Kitchen to help feed Ukrainian refugees, according to Heavy Consequence. The organization was founded by Chef Jose Andres to provide "meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises."

Metallica's Lars Ulrich said, "The work that Chef Jose Andres and the dedicated World Central Kitchen cooks do on the frontlines in a humanitarian crisis is nothing short of incredible. We are inspired, humbled, and beyond proud to support their teams currently in six European countries serving the millions of Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes. WCK represents everything that Metallica and our All Within My Hands Foundation stand for by providing meals with dignity and hope worldwide."

Metallica seeks to raise even more money for the cause -- $1 million over the next two months, to be exact -- so to help meet their goal, Metallica artist Andrew Cremeans has created a special t-shirt which is currently available via Metallica's webstore. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will benefit World Central Kitchen's #ChefsForUkraine campaign. Donations are also appreciated via the All Within My Hands Foundation website.

Red Hot Chili Peppers News Roundup

On Thursday (March 31st), Red Hot Chili Peppers were awarded the 2,717th star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame -- the day before they released their new album, Unlimited Love. The band's star sits in the second row at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, adjacent to the Amoeba Records location on the south side of the street. People.com reported bassist Flea said at the star's unveiling, "I know this street inside out, and this street knows me. And whenever we've traveled around the world, this street has always been a part of me. I'm really grateful that now we can be a part of it."

Frontman Anthony Kiedis licked the star and saluted his bandmates: "To me, this is not a story of individuals. I love Chad (Smith), I love Flea, I love John (Frusciante), greatly. They are amazingly talented. Something happens when we come together which is much greater than the individual parts. The sum total of our parts is that we were able to find something that we love doing and communicate with the entire world."

Drummer Chad Smith made a point of thanking all the previous members of the Chili Peppers who contributed to the band's journey and offered a loving shout-out to late Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

Joining the band and saluting them during the honors were one-time producer and friend George Clinton, actor Woody Harellson, and musician Bob Forrest. That night, Clinton appeared with the band at their album release party at L.A.'s Fonda Theater and took the stage with them during "Give It Away." Chad Smith's drumhead featured the outline of a bird with the word "Taylor" printed within its body saluting Taylor Hawkins.

On Friday night (April 1st) as part of the clever late night wars' "April Fool's" joke -- rival hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon switched shows -- and networks -- with both presenting performances from the Chili Peppers. The band played "These Are The Ways" on ABC's Live With Jimmy Kimmel and "Black Summer" on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Both programs featured drumheads saluting Taylor Hawkins with the Fallon show spotlighting the Chili Peppers' logo with the word "Taylor" printed inside.

Flea told us that playing in the band and being creative are two things he can't live without: "Playing in the Red Hot Chili Peppers and playing bass is a very animal, comfortable, instinctual, intense thing for me and a huge part of who I am. Every time I am involved in any creative process, it always deepens me as a person, just widens my palette of colors to paint with, y'know, and I'm always loving doing it. I like being creative, it's when I'm happy."

The song was written by 5SOS member Luke Hemmings. This is the second track off their upcoming fifth studio album. He said, "'Take My Hand' is a song the band is extremely proud of. We're always proud of what we create, but this one is special. This one really feels like the heart of 5SOS. It's about the fear of change in yourself and becoming accustomed to how you've always been. This song speaks on finally embracing that fear and embracing changes, because they're changes for the better. It's about realizing how lucky you are and never letting go of the one who helped you get to that place . . ."

"Take My Hand" follows the release of the band's hit "Complete Mess," which continues to climb the Hot AC and Top 40 radio charts.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Return Today With 'Unlimited Love'

Out today (April 1st) is Red Hot Chili Peppers' latest album, Unlimited Love. The album, which is the band's 12th studio set, reunites the band with famed producer Rick Rubin.

Frontman Anthony Kiedis says that he was sympathetic with guitarist John Frusciante leaving the band back in 2009 -- and completely understood what he needed to return in time for the new album.

During a chat with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Kiedis spoke about Frusciante's exit and return: "He did make a holistic decision. He's like, 'It's not for me. It's too much. Too much attention. Too much travel. Too much chaos -- all of it.' And so, he walked away and I think he needed a solid 12 years of processing all of that, which he was, kind of, willing to do slowly. 'Y'know, really: 'What life do I wanna live?' And I think that he figured out that as difficult as that situation could be, it's like, it's just life. It's just an opportunity and it's just being in a band and maybe I can find a better way to do this."
