Debbie Harry Would've Been Drawn To The Sex Industry If Hitting NYC Today

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry fled from her suburban upbringing in Hawthorne, New Jersey and quickly made her way to the mean streets of late-1960's New York City. Harry, who's currently on the road with Blondie spoke with Esquire, who pressed her about what she would be aiming for if she was a young woman hitting New York City today.

Harry revealed, "I think that probably now I would go into the sex industry. . . I don't know, but that's a clandestine area, and I was always interested in the clandestine. That's what attracted me to the music world. And I don't know where you can find that so much these days."

She was asked how old she was when she decide to make Manhattan her home -- and what exactly she was seeking out: "I don't know. 20? I was just at the end of being a teenager. . . I was trying to find myself. I wanted to be an artist or to be in showbiz; I wanted some excitement, some glam-a. I wanted out of what was expected of me. I wanted to live, live!"

Debbie Harry told us that it doesn't feel like it's been nearly 50 years since Blondie formed in Manhattan's Lower East Side: "Doesn't seem that long to me. The only time that it seemed long ago was after 9/11. All I could think of then was, 'Oh God, I wish it was the '70s again.' But that was 'cause it was such a shocking event and such a horrible thing that sort of rocked my world -- rocked all of our worlds. And I thought, 'Oh, God.' I was just really nostalgic -- and I am not a nostalgic person. I really enjoy moving on, and y'know, living."

Doja Cat Wins Big At The 2022 Billboard Music Awards

The 2022 Billboard Music Awards aired live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last night (May 15th), celebrating artists of all genres under one roof.

Diddy, the rapper-billionaire with many nicknames including Love, hosted the event and came prepared with outfit changes and a dance number to open the show. Joined by rapper-singer Bryson Tiller for their new track "Gotta Move On," Diddy did some choreographed steps and was later accompanied by Jack Harlow, who performed his hit "First Class." Christian Combs, a.k.a. King Combs—Diddy's son—Teyana Taylor and her daughter Junie helped Diddy perform the classic "Mo' Money Mo' Problems" before Puffy turned to his hosting duties.

The night was full of notable moments, including Doja Cat taking home awards in the R&B categories, Diddy and the City Girls going off the teleprompter, Morgan Wallen and Travis Scott making award show appearances after having controversial moments of their own, Mary J. Blige being honored by Janet Jackson and much more.

Although these particular awards weren't televised, Olivia Rodrigo won Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist and Drake won Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist as well as Top Rap Album.

HIGHLIGHTS

Megan Thee Stallion took home the award for Top Rap Female Artist, but was visibly surprised by her win. So much that she held a shocked face before going on stage to accept her nod. This is the second year Meg has won this award.

At one point, Diddy requested the telepromter be turned off and renamed the venue Club Love for the night.

Morgan Wallen, who was at the center of controversy following a video surfacing where he used the N-word, performed two tracks—"Don't Think Jesus" and "Wasted on You"—and also won the award for Top Male Country Artist.

Travis Scott made his first award show appearance since the mass casualty event that occurred at his Astroworld Festival back in November. Travis' comeback, welcomed by Diddy and French Montana, included a "highly stylized performance" of two new songs, "Mafia" and "Lost Forever."

Janet Jackson honored Mary J. Blige with the Billboard Icon Award.

Maxwell performed a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Activist Tamika Mallory was honored by Diddy and given the Revolt award for Black Excellence.

Pearl Jam Drummer Misses Show Due To Covid

Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron missed his first show with the band in 24 years on Thursday night (May 12th) after testing positive for Covid. For the band's Northern California appearance at the Oakland Arena, touring member Josh Klinghoffer and longtime Jeff Ament collaborator Richard Stuverud both handled drum duties during the show. The band allowed a fan, named Josh Arroyo, to drum on the show's final tune -- "Yellow Ledbetter."

Blabbermouth reported, "Klinghoffer was behind the kit for set opener, a cover of Neil Young's 'Rockin' In The Free World,' as well as 'Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town,' 'Why Go,' and 'Corduroy,' before Stuverud stepped in for the tracks 'Quick Escape' and 'Superblood Wolfmoon.'"

Prior to performing "Why Go," Eddie Vedder told the crowd: "Matt Cameron is a true artist and he's a force of nature. However, even his superhero status could not prevent him from testing positive. This damn Covid thing yesterday. We've been scrambling for 24 hours because after 25 months of. . . We were supposed to be here 25 months ago. We've been waiting and we've been waiting. Postponing wasn't an option and for us neither was canceling. We didn't want to pull the plug and we couldn't pull the plug. We've got our group here, we've got our equipment here and, most importantly, you're here. So, lucky for us, we have some friends, and one of our friends has already been on our team this tour -- the multi-talented, multi-faceted, multi-instrumentalist playing behind the drum kit right now, Mr. Josh Klinghoffer. Like the Shohei Ohtani of rock n' roll. Let's let the s*** hit the fan and hopefully it's good s***."

Bassist Jeff Ament has collaborated with Richard Stuverud on several projects over the years and not too long ago shed light on their strong musical chemistry: "I've been playing kind of off and on with Richard Stuverud for like 22 years, or something like that. So, y'know, when I first built my studio in Montana, he was the first guy that came out and made music with me, and he's just always been like one of those guys creatively that we push each other in really cool ways and we just always come up with really, like, satisfying music, y'know?"

Metallica's James Hetfield Has Emotional Moment On Stage In Brazil

Metallica's James Hetfield shared an emotional moment with his bandmates and fans while on stage on Thursday (May 12th) in Brazil. In between songs, he told the crowd, "I've gotta tell you I wasn't feeling very good before I came out here. (I was) feeling a little bit insecure, like I'm an old guy, (I) can't play anymore — all this bullsh** that I tell myself in my head, so I talked to these guys, and they helped me — as simple as that. They gave me a hug and said, 'Hey, if you're struggling onstage, we've got your back.' And I tell you, it means the world to me."

Hetfield was join by bandmates Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo who joined Hetfield in a group hug. He told the crowd, "And seeing you out there, I… I am not alone. I am not alone, and neither are you."

Metallica limited their tours to just 50 shows a year back in 2017 because Hetfield explained that's what his body could handle, according to Loudwire.com.

Perry Farrell & Billy Corgan Commiserate Over Troubled Childhoods

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell and Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan spoke about how each having less than happy childhoods has bonded the two musicians. The pair -- along with their respective bands -- will be on the road this fall for a 32-city arena run and spoke candidly about their early lives on Stern.

During the appearance to promote the tour, Farrell, whose mother committed suicide when he was three, discussed his connection with Corgan, who spent time living without either of his birth parents during his childhood: "Y'know, it's just because out of respect I don't want to bring up something that might hurt you real bad. Y'know, (by asking) 'How did your mother treat you or what happened to you' -- unless you're ready to talk about it. But, much like (Jane's guitarist) Dave Navarro, I find that people that have been really nailed in life. . . Like I say -- that's the obstacle. If they can jump over the obstacle, they've gott a whole lotta news to tell people, y'know? They become messengers. Yeah -- I know about your past and I know about your childhood. I don't talk about it, but I do feel a kindred spirit."

Smashing Pumpkins next perform on May 17th at Oklahoma City's Zoo Amphitheatre.

The Hu Release New Single, Video From Upcoming Album

Prior to the release of their second studio album this summer, The Hu have released a new single called "This Is Mongol," as well as the video. The clip was shot in the Mojave Desert.

Singer and tumur hhuur player Jaya said, "The environment reminded us of Gobi Desert in Mongolia. We enjoyed shooting the video, which happened during our tour and gave us a little break to reminisce about home. The song perfectly matched the environment we made the video in . . ."

The Hu is urrently on their Black Thunder Tour. They will join Five Finger Death Punch and Megadeth on tour later this summer.

Maneskin Explains Inspiration For 'Supermodel' Single

Maneskin opened up about the inspiration for their new single "Supermodel." According to Blabbermouth.net, the band said, "We wrote 'Supermodel' after spending the best few months in L.A. At times we were surprised yet intrigued to find how people cared so much about the idea of 'celebrity' and status, obsessing over their looks and connections."

The band continued, "We started to imagine an enigmatic Supermodel character. She is really cool, fun and social, yet in reality she is troubled, hiding sadness and addiction. In a way you love her, because she knows how to have a good time, but you also want to avoid her, because she might get you into trouble."

Arcade Fire Perform As First Pics Of Milky Way's Black Hole Are Revealed

The first pictures of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way were shared by the international consortium behind the Event Horizon Telescope yesterday (Thursday, May 12th) and Arcade Fire were a part of the big reveal. The black hole's name is "Sagittarius A*," which is also the subtitle of Arcade Fire's new WE album track, "End Of The Empire IV." Band members Win Butler and Regine Chassagne were on hand at the European Southern Observatory to play the song during the press conference.

Butler shared a picture of "Sagittarius A* and a snipped of their performance on Arcade Fire's social media accounts writing, "There is so much that we don't understand about ourselves; our minds, our planet, our solar system. When I first read about Sagittarius A*, the super massive black hole that sits in the center of our galaxy, it felt symbolic of all we seek to understand about ourselves, and yet fail to fully grasp . . . And today, WE know a little bit more, thanks to the collaboration of a vast network of telescopes and scientists all over the world. A testament to what we can accomplish together as humanity . . . Perhaps 'We'll see one day, what's on the other side.' Thank you so much @esoastronomy for the invitation to perform, it was an honor."

Arcade Fire's cover of Harry Styles' hit "As It Was" was also released yesterday.

Coldplay Wants To Cut Tour Emissions, Accused Of Greenwashing Instead

Coldplay says they are committed to making their tour as sustainable and low carbon-impact as possible. Now they're facing backlash by partnering with Neste -- a Finnish oil company that has ties to deforestation.

Some perceive that Neste's partnership with Coldplay is an effort to hide the company's controversies and false statements about sustainable energy.

The band explained in a statement that they aimed to reduce overall CO2 emissions by 50% compared with their 2017 tour through the partnership. They plan to do that by using renewable energy and making use of the alternatives available in the cities they're performing in. The band even used renewable waste made up of recycled cooking oils and byproducts to fuel their touring plane.

They had approached various electric car manufacturers to supply the batteries and expertise so they could power their shows with renewable energy as well.

Then they received criticism for their collaboration with BMW, which is an influential lobbyist in preventing the EU from reaching zero emissions by 2035.

This week, Coldplay reacted to the backlash and reiterated that they are still "trying their best," but say the changeover is a work in progress.

TL;DR:

  • Coldplay is committed to making their tour as sustainable and low carbon-impact as possible.
  • Now they're facing backlash by partnering with Neste -- a Finnish oil company that has ties to deforestation.
  • Coldplay says the changeover is a work in progress.

Slipknot's Side Wilson, Kelly Osbourne Expecting Baby

Talk about rock royalty! Ozzy Osbourne's famous daughter, Kelly Osbourne, and her boyfriend, Slipknot's Sid Wilson, are expecting their first child together. They each shared the big news on their respective social media accounts yesterday (Thursday, May 12th). No due date has yet been announced.

Kelly shared sonogram images writing, "I know that I have been very quiet these past few months so I thought I would share with you all as to why… I am over the moon to announce that I am going to be a Mumma. To say that I am happy does not quite cut it. I am ecstatic!"

Wilson also shared a sonogram image captioning it with heart emojis.

Kelly's mom, Sharon Osbourne, responded to the news by tweeting, "My heart could not be more full! So excited to share this beautiful journey with you @KellyOsbourne!"

People.com reports that Kelly and Wilson have been friends since meeting in 1999 when Slipknot toured with Ozzfest. Their relationship reportedly turned romantic in January.

James Hetfield Cites Two Early Guitar Influences

Metallica's James Hetfield cited two of his early guitar influences. Loudwire reported during the promotional video for Hetfield's new Hardwired Master Core strings for Ernie Ball, he explained how both metal and punk icons helped lead the way to his unique style of rhythm guitar.

Hetfield was quoted as saying, "For me it was a little more raw, the stuff that I liked. Discovering bands like AC/DC then Judas Priest and then the whole new wave of British heavy metal came out and that was Iron Maiden, then Motorhead, and Black Sabbath for sure was a Number One influence for me. Seeing that first album cover, and seeing that first Iron Maiden album cover, it drew me right to it. I just got continually heavier and heavier as I was discovering music."

Hetfield went on to shed light on the mechanics of his guitar playing: "I'm kind of a little bit of a barbarian when I play. I'm always interested in the riff. It was the foundation of the song. Tony Iommi, he's ruling the song with his riff and everything else joins him. Y'know, Johnny Ramone, lots of down picking lots of y'know, just fast down picking. That helped develop my style. So kind of a combination of punk rock and heavy rock at the time y'know, turned into just the down picking style and with melody along with it."

Not too long ago, James Hetfield admitted to us that due to his shyness in the early days of Metallica, he used to play up his "tough-guy" persona: "There's no doubt that I played into the image that was portrayed in the press, portrayed in people's description of why they liked Metallica. I didn't want to disappoint. I wanted to be that guy. I wanted to put that mask on, and then keeping the mask on 24 hours became suffocating, and I could not do it anymore."

IN OTHER METALLICA NEWS

James Hetfield checked in on his youngest fan, Luan Figueiró, who was born on May 7th during the band's concert in Curitiba, Brazil. The baby's mom, Joice M. Figueiró, filmed the phone call and posted some of the seven-minute conversation online.

My Chemical Romance Releases First Song In Eight Years

My Chemical Romance released their first song in eight years yesterday (May 12th). The six minute song "The Foundations of Decay," is the band's first release since 2014's "Fake Your Death," which was included on their greatest hits album.

Fans can see the band perform their new single on tour this summer. The North American leg of the tour kicks off in Oklahoma City on August 20th.

They are also set to perform at the Rio Fest and the first ever When We Were Young festival.

Smashing Pumpkins & Jane's Addiction Announce Fall Tour

Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction have rolled out their 32-date joint "Spirits On Fire Tour" set for this fall. The arena run kicks off on October 2nd at Dallas' American Airlines Center and wraps on November 19th at L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl.

The Pumpkins are currently on the road, and the upcoming gigs mark Jane's first full-scale tour dates since 2016.

Billy Corgan told us that he's been aware for years how much the early-Pumpkins albums have influenced the music that came in their wake: "Overly masculine kind of invested rock on paper doesn't seem to have a lot to do with what we did. But then, I've gotten to know Fred Durst a little bit, and the Smashing Pumpkins are, like, one of his favorite bands. When he was 16, 17, he was listening to Gish and Siamese (Dream). So, y'know, somehow along the way, we had to do Nirvana, and that approach seemed to invest itself into, like, what becomes heavier and heavier. So, I don't think it's a peer thing so much as it's just part of a lineage. I'm not taking the credit or the blame."

Not too long ago, Perry Farrell told us that he counts himself lucky to have found his place in the world through Jane's Addiction: "Well, y'know, I still cherish being in Jane's Addiction, as hard as it is, y'know? I can't say that my band and I are friends, and there was a time we didn't like each other at all, but I would say that I love being in Jane's Addiction so much, it overrides any kind of like shortcomings I might see in them and they might see in me."

Smashing Pumpkins perform on Friday night (May 13th) in Santa Barbara, California at The Santa Barbara Bowl.

Death Cab For Cutie Release New Music, Announce U.S. Tour

Death Cab for Cutie have released the first track from their upcoming 10th studio album. The song is called "Roman Candles," and the album, Asphalt Meadows, will be released on September 16th. The new track is available at all DSPs and streaming services. In addition, Death Cab for Cutie have released the "Roman Candles" lyric video.

Of the song, the band said, "‘Roman Candles' is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet. And that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go."

Benjamin Gibbard added, "The lyrics were cobbled from a couple of different songs dealing with my general sense of anxiety; the feeling that the fabric that weaves a functioning society together was crumbling during the pandemic."

Death Cab for Cutie also unveiled a US headlining tour in support of Asphalt Meadows which launches on September 22th in Madison, WI and wraps up with a two-night hometown finale at Seattle, WA's Paramount Theatre on October 26th and 27th. The Maine Release Live Video, Recording Of 'Loved You A Little'

The Maine have released a live video and recording of their new song, "Loved You A Little", which was filmed in front of an NYC crowd at Webster Hall on their recently completed sold-out tour. Just as with the studio recording of "Loved You A Little", the live version also features Taking Back Sunday's Adam Lazzara and Charlotte Sands.

Lead singer John O'Callaghan says "Playing a new song live always tends to rack the nerves, but when you have the luxury of playing with a vet like Adam and a monster singer like Charlotte, the nerves seem to dissipate. NYC audiences get active like few other places in the world, and this night at Webster Hall was one for the scrapbook for sure. The whole band just loved this moment!"

The recent collaboration on "Loved You A Little" has sent The Maine back up the Mediabase Alternative Charts where it has reached Number 11.

Halestorm's Lzzy Hale Says People Aren't On Their Phones As Much During Concerts

Halestorm's Lzzy Hale says she's noticed a huge drop off in people using their phones at concerts post COVID-19 lockdown. According to Blabbermouth.net, when asked about returning to the road after the shutdown, she said, "Oh, it's wonderful. You just feel like you're at home. It's also different now — in a good way. I feel like some of the things that we normally would be paying too much attention to, like, 'Oh, did I hit that note?' or 'Did I…?', those normal discussions that usually happen after a show, like, 'Oh, you were too fast with your tempos,' or, 'Maybe I was flat on this note' or something, we're not talking about that anymore."

She continued, "We're just so caught up in the middle of the moment and just trying to live in the present, live in the now. And then after the show, we're just so happy to be able to say that we can still do this and that we're here. And I've noticed that with the audience too; the audience is literally coming to a show like it's gonna be stolen from them again. It's a beautiful time."

She added, "I've also noticed a huge drop-off in people using their phones to take pictures and shoot video, like not paying attention to the artists on stage. Everyone just wants to see everything and absorb it. I hope that's a trend that continues on, because it's good to see everyone's faces."

Michael Anthony Reveals He's Been In Talks For Van Halen Reunion

Former-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony revealed that he too has been in talks about a live Van Halen reunion. Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted recently revealed that he had been asked about testing the waters with Alex Van Halen, Joe Satriani -- and presumably David Lee Roth -- for a possible tribute/reunion tour -- and Anthony explained he's spoken to his former bandmates and management about the same thing.

Michael Anthony appeared on The Mitch Lafon & Jeremy White Show and offered up where he stands in all of this: "(What) was kind of a surprise to me was that Jason Newsted thing. When he came out and said that Alex had talked to him, what last year or something like that? Which is kinda interesting, because I actually had been talking on a conference call with (manager) Irving Azoff, Alex, and Dave last year. So, I don't know what the Jason thing was all about -- and that's with (Joe) Satriani. And, y'know, I spoke to Joe about it and it was more, y'know, just, something (that was) kicking around. Y'know, I don't know if it was just nothing more than anyone talking -- but I did have some talks with Dave and Alex last year."

Anthony went on to explain that rather than the preliminary talks leading to a full on "new" lineup of the band without the late-Eddie Van Halen, any type of project would be considered a celebration of the music.

A while back, drummer Alex Van Halen shed light on Michael Anthony becoming the fourth and final member of the classic Van Halen lineup back in 1974: "The way we met was, we were playing the same bill -- playing a high school auditorium. And our P.A. had broken down and Mike just let us use his. And we befriended him and he came around -- and before you know it, he was in the band. In the beginning, that's when you really. . . it's the friendship and the camaraderie and the love for music that makes it happen. But, yeah, it was Mike's vibe that was the. . . first got us going."

50 Years Ago Today: The Rolling Stones Release 'Exile On Main St.'

It was 50 years ago today (May 12th, 1972) that the Rolling Stones released their groundbreaking double album, Exile On Main St. The collection chronicled the band's last days in England and living decadently in exile in and around the French Riviera during the spring and summer of 1971.

Exile On Main St., which was the band's fourth album co-produced by the late-Jimmy Miller, spent four weeks at Number One, and included the hit singles "Tumbling Dice" -- which peaked at Number Seven, and "Happy" -- which reach Number 22 -- along with such classic tracks as "Rocks Off," "Torn And Frayed," "Rip This Joint," "Loving Cup," "Let It Loose," "All Down The Line," "Shine A Light," "Sweet Virginia," and others.

Despite the fact that Exile On Main St. sounds as if the songs were recorded all at once, some of the tracks stretched as far back as 1968 and were sketches either written, or partially -- or even fully -- recorded during the Stones' sessions for Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, and Sticky Fingers.

According to legend, there are dozens of hours of loose jams recorded by the Stones during the infamous basement sessions held at Keith Richards' rented house, Nellcote. Nellcote was a Gestapo headquarters during the Second World War -- a fact, which was figured out after the band noticed the swastikas on the floor vents. Amazingly, Keith Richards actually started the Exile sessions clean, and only reverted back to using heroin after a nasty go-cart accident in which he ripped his entire back open.

Back in 2010, the Stones issued an expanded reissue of Exile On Main Street. The album's "deluxe" CD edition featured 10 bonus tracks: "Loving Cup," "Pass The Wine (Sophia Loren)," "I'm Not Signifying," "Dancing In The Light," "So Divine (Aladdin Story)," "Soul Survivor," "Following The River," "Plundered My Soul," "Good Time Women," and "Title 5.

The "super deluxe" package included the vinyl version, the documentary DVD Stones In Exile, and a 50-page collector's book with photos from the Exile era.

Back in 2010, Mick Jagger spoke about the legendary set, telling The Sydney Morning Herald, "I don't know if it was my favorite. I don't have a favorite album. I don't know how you could have a favorite -- a favorite movie, a favorite anything -- because one day you might not be in the mood for a really grungy album like this one and you might want something smoother and more polished: you might prefer Tattoo You some days."

He went on to praise Exile's dual guitar interplay between Keith Richards and Mick Taylor: "One of the great things about it is that you've got Mick playing brilliantly and Keith also -- but they have diametrically opposed styles: Mick's got this very fluid, melodic style and Keith's got this very rhythmic style, so they work very well together."

Mick Jagger told us that although the album remains among the most legendary of the band's golden era, newer fans discovering the album are at a slight disadvantage: "I mean, it's never quite the same. Y'know, when you discover something yourself. The thing is when you discover a new bar -- you think you've discovered it and then you find out that everyone knows about it. So if you're 16 and you found this record, you'll say 'Oh! This is really interesting; have you ever heard of a record called Exile On Main St.?' I found this, it's like, really rare' And you say, 'Well everyone knows about that!' So, y'know, that's how you wanna discover things."

In November 1971, Jagger and Richards moved the album's sessions from France to L.A. to record overdubs and mix the set. Dr. John, who added keyboards at the time, had said that he remembered very little of his time working on Exile On Main Street. We asked Keith Richards if he too draws a blank when he thinks back to the long hot summer of '71 and recording Exile: "Yeah, I can remember it -- and I can smell it still (laughs); that basement was pretty dirty. But apart from that, I know what Dr. John means. I think he was around for some of the making of it, y'know?"

Keith Richards talked about the long-growing legacy of Exile In Main Street over the years and explained that despite it's place in rock culture today -- it wasn't released to great fanfare in 1972: "At first it was received (with) a little bit of doubt and skepticism, but then it just started to pick up and then it kept going and going and going until some people now say 'it's the best album you've ever done' -- well, I don't know about that (laughs). But I'm still very proud of it. I could never pick, I mean, 'what do I think is the best?' -- I could never think in those terms, y'know? Well that was the best of what I did then (laughs), y'know?

We asked Mick Jagger about the Stones' legendary tapes recorded at Jagger's home called Stargroves in 1970, prior to the Exile sessions: "I looked at a lot of that, I listened to a lot of that stuff, too. And some of that is on this record."

In the expanded DVD edition of Stones In Exile, Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts shed light onto the band's sessions at Stargroves, much of which found its way on to Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street , and Goats Head Soup: "(Mick Jagger): In a small little box, you get very bad drum sounds, so you have to trick the drum sound up with all kinds of echoes. In a big ambient room like this, you get a very big drum sound, and in those days (Charlie Watts): You could move things in big rooms, that's what's so good. Like, the brass didn't sound good here, so you go up there, or you go (Mick Jagger): We used all the rooms to record in, so we put amps in all these different rooms to get all these different sounds."

Don Was, who's been the Stones' primary producer since 1993 had the dream job of not only digging tracks out of the archive for the deluxe Exile reissue release -- but he was behind the boards as Jagger, Richards and former guitarist Mick Taylor put the finishing touches on some nearly-finished Exile-era tracks. We asked him what boundaries he set for himself before working on such an important project: "You bring respect, man. I'll tell you, the boundaries are laid down by Keith. Keith sent me a fax at the very beginning. He said, 'You don't have to make it sound like Exile -- it is Exile.' And that was it. That was the guiding principle."

Although bassist Bill Wyman is no longer a partner in the Stones franchise, he is considered the band's primary in-house historian and still contributes to their archival projects. Wyman explained in the 2010 Stones In Exile DVD that although Exile On Main St. proved to be among the greatest of the Stones' '70s albums, the sessions were far from being the most productive or professional of the era: "I suppose we had the band there -- the whole band there -- probably 30 percent, 40 percent of the time. The rest of the time it was just bits. Me and Charlie (Watts) and Mick didn't come -- Mick Taylor didn't come -- and me Charlie and Keith (Richards), so we'd work on something. 'Next day Keith wouldn't come because Mick (Jagger) wasn't there, so then Mick'd come and he'd see that Keith wasn't there and the next day he wouldn't come. And sometimes we'd all get there to a session and Keith wouldn't even come! He was upstairs sleeping! Charlie'd come five hours, y'know, me and Mick Taylor had come two hours, Mick had come an hour and Keith is upstairs, and he didn't come down to the session! And it was like, madness."

Back in 2012, the film rights to author Robert Greenfield's 2006 book, Exile On Main Street: A Season In Hell With The Rolling Stones were optioned by Virgin Produced for an upcoming biopic. Greenfield, who during his tenure as a Rolling Stone associate editor, followed the Stones on their 1972 tour and wrote the classic 1974 book on the band's legendary road trek, STP: A Journey Through America With The Rolling Stones. So far no further info on the picture has been announced.

The Rolling Stones' 14-stadium European run kicks off on June 1st in Madrid, Spain and plays through July 31st in Stockholm, Sweden.

Randy Blythe Impressed With School Of Rock Kids Talent, Work Ethic

Lamb of God's Randy Blythe is used to being surrounded by talented musicians, but he was just as blown away by the talent in the School of Rock Kids in Doylestown, PA. During a recent appearance on Full Metal Jackie's radio show Blythe said, "I showed up and these kids were so well rehearsed and they were so engaged. They were not messing around with their phones or TikToking, or trying to prove via social media that they were hanging out with some dude from a metal band. They were there to make music and it was really encouraging to me because the digital world is so distracting."

He added, "The people there were super cool and the kids were very, very talented. There was one dude who was singing with me and I was a little embarrassed to be singing with him because he's 15 and he's just got these pipes. I'm like, 'Jesus Christ, I am outta here.'"

Blythe teamed up with the School of Rock Kids earlier this year where they collaborated on Lamb of God songs.

Blythe and Lamb of God continue on The Metal Tour of the Year also featuring Megadeth, Trivium and In Flames. They are in the midst of the second leg which kicked off last month.
