Fozzy's Chris Jericho took his niece's horrific experience of being publicly beaten by classmates to social media on Sunday (May 22nd) tweeting a video of the abuse and writing, "Hey @HillsboroughSch - My niece has been incessantly bullied at #MulrennanMiddleSchool for months. In a message to TMZ, Jericho gave an update on his niece saying that she is "physically ok. But, mentally she's hurting. She's scared to go to school. This could've been avoided as the family approached the school a few times prior but nothing was done."

Slash Doesn't Like Drawing Attention To Himself Offstage

Slash shed light on how he deals with fame. The legendary Guns N' Roses guitarist who has been a household name for 35 years now spoke to Goldmine and was asked how his notoriety fits into his life: "It's an interesting question, because someone like me, who is not really into fame for fame's sake or that kind of thing, you have to appreciate that your path has brought you to having whatever recognition for whatever it is that you do. Y'know, you have to appreciate. . . when someone has some sort of attachment to you for what you produce."

He went on to say, "I might not always be comfortable in a public situation, because my personality doesn't lend itself to that. But I always appreciate the fact that it's because of whatever I did musically. It's a double-edged sword kind of thing. I don't like the sort of attention. If I'm not playing guitar, I try not to draw attention. But at the same time, you can't resent it, because it means something for what it is that you do."

Slash told us a while back that finally becoming a father helped settle him down: "I never actually was one of those guys that said I'm gonna be single forever and never have children. I just never made plans for it, so when it happened, it was, like, at the perfect time in my life. It's like, if it had happened a second earlier, I couldn't have handled it, 'cause I was too out there. Then when the kids came, it actually sort of secured me, more than anything."

Guns N' Roses kick off its European tour on June 4th in Lisbon, Portugal at Passeio Martimo De Alges.

Evanescence And Guitar Player Jen Majura Part Ways

We will always love her and support her, and can't wait to see what she does next! We are so grateful for the good times and great music we made all around the world together."

For her part, Majura tweeted, "I feel the need to address that none of this was my decision! I have no hard feelings against anybody and I wish Evanescence all the best. I am allowed to carry beautiful memories of these past years, I am grateful."

Majura joined Evanascence in 2015.

The band is slated to kick off their tour on June 5th in Athens, Greece.

Five Finger Death Punch's Ivan Moody Suffers Eye Injury During Show

Five Finger Death Punch frontman Ivan Moody's right eye was injured during the band's show in Daytona Beach, FL on Thursday (May 19th) after it was accidentally exposed to a laser beam. Moody shared a since-deleted video on social media late Thursday night explaining that he "got overheated" and tripped over a laser which wound up shooting him in the eye.

While at the hospital, Moody visited with several fans who were also brought to the ER due to various reasons during the Welcome To Rockville Festival at which Five Finger Death Punch was playing at the time of his accident. He shared several minutes of video featuring him meeting and chatting with those fans.

Blabbermouth.net reports that Moody said, "I've gotta go back (home) to (Las) Vegas and I've gotta see a real eye doctor, and hopefully it's okay. I can't see out of it right now. It's, like, have you ever stared at the sun or a lightbulb and you get that green light — it blackens it out. Imagine that times, like, a thousand. They thought my retina was separated; that's how bad it was.

At the moment, the band is scheduled to launch its European tour on June 12th at Austria's Nova Rock festival.

Ozzy Osbourne Is Awaiting Neck Surgery

Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he is awaiting neck surgery. Osbourne is dealing with some lasting damage from a quad bike accident he had back in 2003. During an interview with Classic Rock for their 300th issue, the rock legend said, "I'm just waiting on some more surgery on my neck. I can't walk properly these days. I have physical therapy every morning. I am somewhat better, but nowhere near as much as I want to be to go back on the road."

When asked if he often thinks about mortality, Ozzy said, "At f*cking 73, I've done pretty well. I don't plan on going anywhere, but my time's going to come."

Kurt Cobain's Fender Mustang Sells For $4.5 Million

Kurt Cobain's iconic 1969 Fender Mustang guitar sold for a cool $4.5 million on May 22nd. The famed guitar was but one of the many instruments that went under the hammer at Julien's Auctions' three-day, "Music Icons" sale. The Cobain guitar -- used most famously in Nirvana's groundbreaking 1991 "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video -- was purchased by Jim Irsay, owner and CEO of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. The guitar, which was originally listed with an estimate for only $600,000, caused a bidding war, which led to the exorbitant final price.

Blabbermouth reported, "In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Cobain family is donating a portion of the proceeds of the legendary guitar and select Kurt Cobain items to Kicking The Stigma, the Irsays' initiative to raise awareness about mental health disorders and remove the stigma associated with these illnesses. Through grants, as well as personal donations by the Irsay family, more than $16 million has been committed to local and national organizations to expand treatment and research and raise awareness in Indiana and beyond."

Jim Isray said in a statement: "I am thrilled to preserve and protect another piece of American culture that changed the way we looked at world. The fact that a portion of the proceeds will go toward our effort to kick the stigma surrounding mental health makes this acquisition even more special to me."

Not long after Nevermind's mega-platinum success Kurt Cobain spoke about the effect the massive adoration and fame Nirvana was suddenly dealing with: "Either I've accepted it or I've gone beyond insane to where I can deal with it emotionally. I really don't care. I know that I'm too stubborn to allow myself to ever compromise our music or get so wrapped up in it and involved to where it's going to turn us into big rock stars. I mean, I just don't feel like that. Everyone else accuses us of it, but y'know, we're not as popular as everyone thinks and we're not as rich as everyone think, y'know? We've always had a good sense of humor, I don't think that's been translated very well. We'd rather laugh about it -- (feigns happiness) ha, ha, ha."

Flea Reveals He Still Takes Music Lessons

Flea revealed he still takes music lessons. The legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist spoke to Bass Player magazine and explained how he looks back at the band's past and his individual musicianship: "I'm always discovering things, y'know, and trying to develop. I like to think that the best parts of myself back then, I've kept, and that I've gotten rid of the bits that I don't need. I'll try to add more essential parts and I'll get better."

He went on to say, "Y'know, I really want to be a good jazz bass player -- that's something I really want to do, whenever I get the time. I was studying with someone for a little while, around the time I finished tracking on the last Chili Peppers album. I was studying jazz with this girl whose husband plays saxophone on our record, just working on trying to play through changes on walking bass, because upright bass is the most comforting sound to me. I remember when we were tracking Californication, we were all sitting around the studio lounge, and John (Frusciante) was asking everybody in the room, 'What's the real comfort music that you put on and it's like breathing?' I realized that for me, it's jazz, mostly because I liked it when I was a kid."

Fleas shed light on how he maintains his bass chops: "When we're on tour, I'm playing so much. We're playing gigs all the time, and I play scales for an hour before every show. Something about the Chili Peppers is that never for a second have we ever taken the audience for granted, or thought 'We'll just go out and play the hits.' I always take every show as a sacred moment, as part of a mission of being alive. So I keep my chops up. I'm ready. I'm ready!"

Guitarist John Frusciante told us a while back that Flea literally lives and breathes music: "Flea's been practicing the bass more than I've ever seen him practice it in my life. In his whole life he's never learned songs by people and lately he's been learning Joy Division songs, and David Bowie songs, and Beatles songs on the piano."

Robert Trujillo Recalls Being Insulted By James Hetfield

During an appearance on The Ex Man With Doc Coyle, Metallica's Robert Trujillo recalled being insulted by James Hetfield. A few years back, the bend was on tour and Hetfield got annoyed with him during rehearsals because he wasn't "jamming through it with full intensity."

He explained, "I've always been in situations in my groups where there were those moments where things get heated and you're bumping heads. It happens in Metallica. There's been a couple of times, even with James."

He continued, "I remember one time a few years ago — about three years ago — in Italy. Poor guy, he got stung by a bee in his face, I think it was. I don't think he's allergic, but there was poison oak going on. So your face is hurtin', your body's itchin'. You're out there on the road. It's raining. And one of the songs — like 'Memory Remains' or something… And we're going on stage very soon and things are running late. And we're playing 'Memory Remains' in the tuning room, and I'm just kind of jamming through it, but I'm not really jamming through it with full intensity; I'm just kind of ghosting it a little bit. And he's, like, 'You know the song?' And this is a song we've played thousands of times. And I was insulted, because this is one of the easiest songs we play, and you're asking me if I know the song. So I'm just kind of, like, 'Yeah, I know the f*cking s…'"

Robert went on, "I blew a fuse for a second. And then I felt horrible, and he felt horrible. And then we realized, I think, that I'm tripping on the load that I have on my shoulders over here; he's tripping on this and this and probably… I mean, I get it, man — I've had poison oak; I've had bee stings before, and it ain't fun. And you're out there and you're trying to be the best you can. So, rather than throwing your instruments down and coming to blows or anything like that, you work it out — you kind of calm yourself and you realize what's going on."

Quick Takes: Rush, Queen + Adam Lambert, Kiss, Vangelis

  • Rush's Geddy Lee revealed that the current tagline for the band's signature beer is not the one they originally pitched. While chatting with Ultimate Classic Rock, Lee explained that although he and Alex Lifeson settled on the catchphrase "Books are for tourists" for their Rush Canadian Golden Ale -- the other was actually more in line with the band's sense of humor: "Did you know the phrase 'Drinking beer is better than being hit in the head with a hammer' can't be put on a beer can? Me neither. But that's a no-no. We did ask." (Ultimate Classic Rock)

  • Queen + Adam Lambert will open Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee Concert on June 4th at Buckingham Palace. The concert, which will be broadcast live, will also feature performances by Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers, and Alicia Keys, along with a specially pre-filmed performance from Elton John. (Blabbermouth)

  • The trailer for Spinning Gold, the upcoming biopic on Casablanca Records late-founder Neil Bogart, is making the rounds ahead of being screened to potential investors at Cannes Film Festival. The decidedly low-budget clip features Michael Ian Black as Kiss manager Bill Aucoin leading Bogart and his entourage to the back of the stage as Kiss performs at an arena. Due to the fact that Kiss is currently working on its own biopic, titled Shout It Out Loud, "Rock And Roll All Night" has been recorded by other musicians and the band's iconic makeup has been changed. There's been no word as to when Spinning Gold will be released. (Variety)

  • Greek composer Vangelis, best known for his chart-topping 1981 theme to the film, Chariots Of Fire, has died at age 79 at a hospital in France. Born Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou in 1943, Vangelis, who will also be remembered for his score to Ridley Scott's 1982 thriller Blade Runner, made a name for himself on the silver screen by scoring such high profile projects as Jack Lemmon's Missing, the Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins drama The Bounty, Roman Polanski's Bitter Moon, and Oliver Stone's Alexander. Vangelis also scored the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, and the 2004 Olympics in Athens. (The Guardian)

Important Cancelation Notice for Sacramento and Las Vegas

While the band battled through Oakland after drummer Matt Cameron tested positive for Covid, and Fresno where Ed and the band got through it with the help of Dave Krusen as special guest drummer, they now have to present the heartbreaking news that this morning bassist Jeff Ament has tested positive for Covid.

This is horrible for everybody involved and we are especially sorry to those out there who have made plans to attend these shows.

Our attention to staying inside the bubble has been constant. We have truly done all that we could have to remain clear of infection.

Scott Ian Of Anthrax Says New Album Is Likely Coming In 2023

Anthrax member Scott Ian confirms the band is working on a new album which will likely be released sometime next year. He paid a visit to Consequence's Kyle Meredith With… podcast where he also suggested Anthrax might head out on another leg of tour dates with Black Label Society.

Ian said, "I'd like to think this US run with Black Label is gonna do pretty well, and maybe we get to do a second run of those dates at some point early next year. And then I'm sure next year at some point, there should be a record, depending on when we get in the studio. Yeah, it's all starting to ramp up again. I'm still fingers crossed it all doesn't just get thrown in the garbage, but I'm being very optimistic that things are moving forward and everyone can go back to work — meaning we get to go play shows again. And I'm very excited about that."

Anthrax and Black Label Society's co-headlining 2022 tour launches on July 26th in Phoenix, AZ.

Sergio Vega Opens Up About Why He Left The Deftones

Former Deftones bassist Sergio Vega has opened up about leaving the band a few months back, saying it had nothing to do with money. According to Blabbermouth.net, during an interview with The Jasta Show, he said, "On a creative level, they were always super open and super cool." He continued, "But it was never even about money. Because even the publishing was there; that's fine. It's purely about belonging; it's purely about just wanting to feel like you're in it."

He went on, "At the beginning, I was up for anything. I was just, like, 'My friends are in trouble, and I just wanna help.' . . . Being a hired gun, there's no room for creative input — that's fine. That would have been a thing, and you wrap your head around that. Initially, my only goal was to put my best foot forward and be a help to people in need and people that I cared about. And it was only because of the way that it was presented to me as, 'This is how it's gonna go down,' where something that I started to go, 'Hey…'"

Again, Vega denied that his unhappiness had anything to do with money, saying, "It was never about money and it was never about any of that. It was just about literally being in the same situation so that it didn't create these opportunities for dissonance, where it was, like, 'Oh, you're doing this, but we're paying you while you're doing this.' I got a call that was, like, 'We're hemorrhaging a lot of money on storage space and you.' And I was, like, 'That's my problem. I'm compared to a storage space. I'm a line item.' It's not the money. It's just the dynamic."

Vega continued, 'So it wasn't me asking for anything during the pandemic; it was the contract being canceled, which is their right. And then I was, like, 'Okay, cool. This doesn't work for anybody. We can finally address a total restructure.' But at the end of the day, we weren't able to really come to terms on that. So that's fine. Basically, everything that I had said in my initial video statement is what kind of happened. And I totally understand their position. But mine is I have to respect my situation and my position as well, that it wasn't something that… having that dissonance, for lack of a better word, was something that was pervasive, and it was something that ultimately was affecting me mentally as well."

Pearl Jam Reunites With Original Drummer At Fresno Show

With Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron still sidelined after testing positive for Covid, the band tapped original drummer Dave Krusen to sit in during its May 16th show at Fresno, California's Save Mart Arena. Although he joined the band onstage during its 2017 Rock Hall performance, the gig marked Krusen's first concert with the band since May 25th, 1991 when he split the group due to substance abuse issues. While behind the kit on Monday night, Krusen tackled 10 songs with the band -- eight of which he originally drummed on.

Ultimate Classic Rock quoted frontman Eddie Vedder's introduction of Krusen: "When this all went down with Matt the other day, we started thinking about all the other people that we've been through some great drummers. . . some of the best. Y'know, that first record (Ten) seems to be a record that affected so many people but our friend that was playing drums at that time, the amount of shows that he got to play with us was fairly limited. Well, it looks like this week we're going to get to make up for that."

Over 30 years on, Pearl Jam remains one of the most consistent live acts around. Guitarist Mike McCready explained a while back why he thinks that is: "The sure-fire thing is just a confidence in our band, and I know that we've done that before and we'll do it again, because we are a really good, tight live band. And a lot of that is non-spoken because we've played together for so long. It's an interesting thing. I don't know if there's a sure-fire way of doing it, but I think we hit it pretty well most times we do it."

Pearl Jam's Matt Cameron Apologizes For Taylor Hawkins Comments

Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron has apologized for comments he made about the late Foo Fighters star Taylor Hawkins. Rolling Stone interviewed twenty of Hawkins' friends for the piece but Hawkins' family members and Foo Fighters bandmates declined to be interviewed. Hawkins' friends said that he was concerned about the band's rigorous touring schedule and didn't know if he could physically handle playing three-hour shows night after night.

Cameron told the outlet said that Hawkins had a talk with the band before his death, saying that he wanted to take a step back from their upcoming rigorous tour schedule. He explained, "He had a heart-to-heart with Dave and, yeah, he told me that he ‘couldn't f – – king do it anymore' — those were his words. So I guess they did come to some understanding, but it just seems like the touring schedule got even crazier after that."

A rep for Foo Fighters denied Cameron's claims, saying, "No, there was never a ‘heart-to-heart' — or any sort of meeting on this topic — with Dave and Silva Artist Management.

Cameron also revealed that Hawkins agreed to continue touring with the band to "be a team player." He said, "A band like that is a big machine with a lot of people on the payroll. So you've got to really be cognizant of the business side of something when it's that big and that has inherent pressure, just like any business."

The Foo Fighter's rep also denied this, saying, "He never ‘informed Dave and management' of anything at all like that." The rep also denied all accounts of Hawkins' feeling of being burnt out.

MATT CAMERON APOLOGIZES

Cameron took to Instagram to apologize, saying, "When I agreed to take part in the Rolling Stone article about Taylor, I assumed it would be a celebration of his life and work. My quotes were taken out of context and shaped into a narrative I never intended. Taylor was a dear friend, and a next level artist."

He continued, "I miss him. I have only the deepest love and respect for Taylor, Dave and the Foo Fighters families."

He added, "I am truly sorry to have taken part in this interview and I apologize that my participation may have caused harm to those for whom I have only the deepest respect and admiration."

Hawkins died on March 25th in Bogotá, Colombia. He was 50.
