Lorde Speaks Out Against Supreme Court Ruling

When Lorde took the stage at the Glastonbury festival over the weekend, she spoke her mind about the Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade.

While singing "Secrets From a Girl (Who's Seen It All)," she went off script for an impassioned speech reminding her female fans just how sacred their right to choose for themselves is — or should be.

She said, "Wanna hear a secret, girls? Your bodies were destined to be controlled and objectified since before you were born. That horror is your birthright."

She went on to tell her audience that they possess strength and wisdom and encouraged them to access that to make a difference. "Because everything depends on it."

She concluded with a direct message to the Supreme Court, whose vote takes away a woman's right to have an abortion... She said, "F–k the Supreme Court."

Lorde is one of many musicians denouncing the court's decision, a few of the others include Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish.

Tommy Lee Broke His Ribs Falling Down Stairs While Carrying Luggage

She how DID Tommy Lee break those four ribs, anyway??? Well fans finally got their answer from Lee's wife, Brittany Furlan, who posted a snapchat video revealing how the legendary drummer hobbled himself -- only days before launching the biggest stadium tour of the summer with Motley Crue.

Blabbermouth transcribed some of Furlan's chat, which reads in part:

"Everyone keeps asking how Tommy broke his ribs, so I'm just gonna tell you. We were staying at an old rental house in Nashville. It was a cool, old quirky house. But the stairs outside were made out of stones, and they were really uneven, and the roots were pushing them up from the tree. And everything was fine. I actually fell up the stairs a few times getting groceries, but whatever."

She added: "So, the day that we were leaving Nashville, our driver came and we had all this luggage and he wasn't helping us; he just stayed in the car. And so Tommy was trying to carry all of our luggage for us. And he fell down these crazy stairs and broke -- broke -- four ribs. Not fractured, not bruised -- broke. And it was crazy, 'cause I came out and he couldn't breathe. It was really scary. He was on the ground (and) he was gasping for air. And he got on a plane that day still and went and did the rest of rehearsals (for the tour) in Pennsylvania."

Furlan went on to say, "He went to the hospital in Pennsylvania when we landed and they were, like, 'You have four broken ribs.' And they wanted to keep him there, but they he did not wanna stay. And he's just a fighter. He's the toughest guy I know. I mean, look at all his tattoos; he just really fights through the pain.'"

Kiss Dropping Unreleased 1977 Des Moines Concert

Coming on September 9th is the last concert from Kiss' ongoing archival "Off The Soundboard" series. Live In Des Moines 1977 was recorded during the Alive II tour on November 29th, 1977 in Des Moines, Iowa at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, featuring the band's original and classic lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss.

When we last caught up with Paul Stanley, he explained that if a fan shells out their hard earned cash to see Kiss in concert, they're getting a massive show by seasoned vets who know exactly what it takes to deliver the goods -- be it in an open air stadium or a smoke-filled, hole in the wall club: "There's absolutely no substitute for working your way up. Bands today that are starting out -- they don't have a clue. Most of these bands go from obscurity to selling a million albums, two million albums -- they couldn't entertain a phone booth and that's why (laughter) they don't sell tickets. You learn the craft by doing it. You start in the clubs, you work your way up to being third on a bill in an auditorium, then you get to headlining there, then you get to work your way into arenas. By the time you're in arenas, you damn well know how to do it."

The tracklisting to Kiss' Off The Soundboard: Live In Des Moines 1977:

"I Stole Your Love"
"King Of The Night Time World"
"Ladies Room"
"Firehouse"
"Love Gun"
"Let Me Go, Rock 'N Roll"
"Makin' Love"
"Christine Sixteen"
"Shock Me"
"I Want You"
"Calling Dr. Love"
"Shout It Out Loud"
"God Of Thunder"
"Rock And Roll All Nite"
"Detroit Rock City"
"Beth"
"Black Diamond"

The Rock World Reacts To The Roe Vs. Wade Being Overturned

Several artists from the rock world took to social media to speak out about the Supreme Court announcing the decision to overturn Roe Vs. Wade that legalized abortion in the U.S. Coheed and Cambria revealed that they will be donating all of their profits from their upcoming Oklahoma City Show with My Chemical Romance to the Center for Reproductive Rights. Meanwhile, Rage against the Machine announced that they will donate nearly half a million dollars to reproductive rights organizations in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Meanwhile, Rise Against released a statement, blasting the U.S. Supreme Court for the ruling, saying, "The half of America that will ban abortions have not ended abortion in their states, they have only ended safe abortion for people without the resources to travel; disproportionately non-white working class communities." The statement continued, "We write this to you while touring internationally where we are reminded that we live in, not just a country, but a world that overwhelmingly supports a woman's right to choose."

The band added, "To the half of Americans who have had their freedoms stripped on this dark day, you are not alone in this battle and we won't stop fighting until your dignity is restored."

Jack White also released a statement on Instagram, saying, "Well trump, you took the country backwards 50 years. I hope your dad is smiling and waving down on you from heaven, while his other hand holds a record of all the abortions you secretly paid for behind closed doors."

Dave Mustaine Might Forgive David Ellefson But Won't Play With Him Again

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine is willing to forgive the band's former bass player, David Ellefson, who was let go last year due to a sex scandal, but he refuses to ever play music with him again, he told Metal Hammer in a new interview on Friday (June 24th).

During the interview, Mustaine referenced Megadeth's two-year breakup in 2002 and Ellefson's subsequent $18.5 million lawsuit in 2004, saying, "I've forgiven him before when he sued me and I'lll forgive him a thousand times. I just won't play music with him anymore."

He told Rolling Stone, "It was hard on me letting him go. And I'm happier now than I've ever been."

Megadeth's new single, "We'll Be Back," was released last week. Their new album, The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!, will be released on September 2nd.

Slipknot's Jay Weinberg To Debut Solo Art Collection

Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg will debut his solo art collection in an exhibit called "A Hollow Realm" on July 7th at Rampart Studios Gallery in Los Angeles. The oil painting collection will consist of 14 paintings that Weinberg has done over the last eight years.

Jay said, "Whether set within the beauty of the natural world, or in complete darkness, each painting's subject tells a part of a personal narrative that explores themes of connection and isolation. The visceral emotions of vulnerability, comfort, lust, and anxiety. Love found and love lost. Others explore the mysterious connection to nature I've felt since an early age, wandering amongst the trees and streams in the backwoods of rural New Jersey. Each piece took between 30 and 100 hours to complete and serves as a touchstone of this methodical practice in understanding and moving beyond the emotional turning points of my life that have led me to where I am today . . ."

Weinberg said that those who can't attend in person will have a virtual opportunity to participate, with details to be announced soon.

Ozzy Wishes Latest Songs Had Been Recorded For Last Black Sabbath Album

Ozzy Osbourne has tapped some of rock's greatest guitarists for his upcoming album, Patient Number 9, set for release on September 9th. Osbourne has already dropped the title track, featuring the legendary Jeff Beck.

Ultimate-Guitar.com posted some of Ozzy's recent Q&A with fans in which he revealed he wished some of the new songs had come earlier: "It was really great working with Tony (Iommi). He's the riff master. No one can touch him in that respect. I only wish we had these songs for Black Sabbath's 13 album."

On reuniting with former solo guitarist Zakk Wylde, Ozzy explained, "Zakk is part of my family and always will be. The album needed that weight that his playing provides. He just came in and really sorted things out."

Regarding the album's just-released title track, Ozzy said: "The song is about a mental institution. Having someone like Jeff Beck play on my album is just incredible, a total honor. There's no other guitar player that plays like him and his solo on 'Patient Number 9 is just jaw-dropping."

Ozzy told us a while back how he finds inspiration for song topics these days: "Believe me, I'm not one of these guys that can write about boy-meets-girl. It's got to mean something to me. I mean, I don't write all the lyrics, but I have to say, 'Well, y'know, this an' that, isn't that strange that that happened when this happened,' y'know, and I'll get going, y'know?"

Paul McCartney Rocks Glastonbury With Bruce Springsteen & Dave Grohl

On Saturday night (June 25th) Paul McCartney welcomed Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl onstage during his first appearance at England's Glastonbury festival in 18 years. The show, which turned out to be "Macca's" 500th with his band of the past two decades, marked Dave Grohl's first live performance since the death of Foo Fighters' drummer Taylor Hawkins back on March 25th.

Grohl joined McCartney for two songs, tackling the Beatles' 1963 Please Please Me opener "I Saw Her Standing There" and 1973's Wings classic "Band On The Run."

Springsteen repeated his two-song set with McCartney that they played back on June 16th at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, with "The Boss" leading the way on his 1984 favorite, "Glory Days" before duetting with McCartney on Ringo Starr's signature "Beatlemania" tune -- "I Wanna Be Your Man." Both Grohl and Springsteen came back out to trade solos on "The End" portion of the show-closing Abbey Road-medley.

Paul McCartney explained that at this stage of his career, how he's perceived as an artist is pretty much irrelevant to him or his work: "I'm not really fussed about what I am now. Y'know, 'cause I've been a lot of stuff I wanted to be. So, y'know, if I was ever trying to become a title -- 'a rock and roller' -- well, y'know, I don't think of myself as anything in particular. Y'know, obviously, as you get older it gets harder to be a punk. But I'm not really fussed about that, 'cause I think it'd be, like, daft to suddenly really try to be 15-years-old. So I have to accept to a degree what I am, y'know? I think of myself, basically, as a sort of rocker, who can write ballads as well."

Five Finger Death Punch's Chris Kael Attends AA Meetings On Tour

Five Finger Death Punch's Chris Kael continues to try to maintain his sobriety even when on tour overseas. He relapsed with alcohol during the pandemic two years ago and has leaned on AA meetings, but he told France's Loud TV that isn't so easy when the band is in Europe. He explained, "I was looking for AA meetings over here (in Europe), 'cause I always hit meetings when I'm over here. It's crazy, living in Las Vegas, the number of meetings that are available — one every hour; I mean, several every hour. And then I was in — what? — Düsseldorf and, what was the other city I was looking in? Berlin? And there was, like, two or three in a day. But with our travel schedule, I wasn't able to fit one of those meetings in, so I just did a couple of online things."

Kael added, "I got sober February 3rd, 2018. Were it not for a mishap during the pandemic, which I haven't spoken publicly about until today, a mishap over the pandemic, it would have been four years (sober). But right now I think I am… I have to go back and look at the date, honestly."

He shared the details of his relapse saying, "I remember I went to a concert and I was trying to do… I was, like, 'All right. I fell off the wagon. I've been back on the wagon. I'm going in. I'm gonna try to control drinking this time. I'm gonna allow myself to have two. And if I do two, cool.' Nope. Did three. Haven't had a drink since. I said, 'I can't do it.' Even trying to limit myself to two, I couldn't do that."

Five Finger Death Punch perform tonight (Friday, June 24th) in Hockenheim, Germany.

They will release their new album, AfterLife, on August 19th.

Coldplay's Chris Martin Praised By BTS' RM

In an interview with Weverse Magazine, Chris Martin of Coldplay received more praise from BTS' RM. When they collaborated on the hit song "My Universe," RM says he was surprised that Martin agreed to travel to Korea to work on the project. He was also impressed with how much Martin knew about the group and talked about music.

RM said, "Not only did he know all our names, he knew all about Tomorrow X and Enhypen. And not just in passing, either. Someone walked by while we were at the HYBE building and he said, ‘Isn't that ENHYPEN?' I was like, Yo, how much did he study before he came here?"

In addition, he said that they all continued to communicate while working on the project and almost always it was Martin that would text first.

"My Universe" was released in both English and Korean. The two bands have performed the song multiple times, including at the 2021 American Music Awards.

TL;DR:

  • RM said he was surprised that Martin agreed to travel to Korea to work on the project.
  • He was impressed with how much Martin knew about the group and talked about music.
  • They all continued to communicate while working on the project and almost always it was Martin that would text first.

Rikki Rockett Says Tommy Lee's 'Taking A Lot Of Heat From Fans'

Poison drummer Rikki Rockett feels that tour mate Tommy Lee is getting too much flack for having broken four ribs just before hitting the road on "The Stadium Tour." Although Lee -- against doctor's orders -- is braving through a handful of tunes every night with Motley Crue, the majority of the set is being handled by drummer Tommy Clufetos -- who now plays with Ozzy Osbourne andghandled drum duties on the last Black Sabbath tour.

Rockett appeared on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk and was asked if he knew Tommy Lee was injured prior to hitting the road, and admitted, "I didn't know anything about it. I swear I didn't. I went out and he wasn't playing. And I'm, like, 'What the heck is going on, guys?' So I went back and got the lowdown."

He went on to say that he thinks it's uncool that some fans are slamming Lee for not playing the full set with the Crue: "He's taking a lot of heat, and I don't think he should. Because I think what's cool about what he's doing is he's coming out there and he's going, 'This is painful to do it, but I want the audience to know that I'm here. I'm here for the duration. I'm not wussing out on this.' Instead of running home and sitting six weeks out while he recovers, he's (out on the road and) he's part of the team. I think that's badass."

Tommy Lee Throws Ribs On Stage During Stadium Tour Stop

Motley Crue's Tommy Lee threw ribs and beer into the crowd during Wednesday night's (June 22nd) The Stadium Tour concert at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. After playing three songs with his bandmates, Lee told the crowd that he had broken four ribs and that his doctor told him he couldn't perform. At that point, he threw a pan full of beer cans and ribs into the crowd.

Lee was replaced for the remainder of the set by Tommy Clufetos, who plays drums in Ozzy Osbourne's live band. Lee briefly returned later in the night to play piano on "Home Sweet Home".

Former Evanescence Guitarist Jen Majura Speaks On Exit From The Band

Former Evanescence guitarist Jen Majura says that she thought his recent dismissal from the band was initially a joke. During an interview with Coffee With Ola, she said, "First of all, I was like 'is this a bad joke?,' and I remember after I got the news I hung up and I have this hallway in between my studio and my living room and I just laid there on the floor staring at the ceiling wondering what that was and...Literally looking over to my suitcase that I have already started packing because I was two weeks from going out on the road until pretty much the end of the year."

When asked about how she felt about leaving the band, she said, "I believe honestly, that's like, what? Three weeks now and I am, since I got the news, and I'm still in this blurry, oblivious...momentum. I, I guess I"m still in shock. Kind of, because you know after being married six years all of a sudden you're divorced."

She continued, "I'm hurt and I'm still in this blurry confusion of 'what just happened?.'" She reveals that she's received some big offers from other bands since, but "would like to consider them, just not now, not yet."

New Ozzy Osbourne Single Features Jeff Beck, Drops On Friday

Ozzy Osbourne has posted a teaser online for his new single, "Patient Number 9," which features Jeff Beck and drops on Friday (June 24th). There been no word on the still-unnamed album's release date, although it's expected to be released in September.

Ozzy Osbourne recently battled not only Covid but is recuperating from "life-altering" surgery that involved removing and realigning pins in his neck and back. He told us a while back that he appreciates being alive and sober more than ever: "We all take life for granted, y'know, and nobody wants to talk about the fact that any of us could go to bed one night and never wake up again. We just take life for granted. I was under the influence of one chemical or another for so long that the joy of just coming around, waking up now without a hangover is great, y'know."
