Anthrax's Scott Ian Reveals When 'The Big 4' Will Tour Again

Anthrax's Scott Ian has opened up about when fans could expect to see another 'Big 4' tour. The Big 4 consists of Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer. During an interview with Metal Edge, Ian was asked about recent comments from Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, who said he is hoping for more Big 4 shows in the near future.

He said, “Yeah, I saw Mustaine was kinda fishing for some of that.  I mean, I don’t know. I don’t think Metallica need to do that right now. They’ve got so much coming up in the next two years.”

Ian addded, "If the Big 4 was to ever happen again – in any capacity – it’s certainly not going to be before ’25 now, because they’ve already announced their plans. So, there you go. Anyone who has a question about the Big 4, hold that thought until 2025. [laughs]"

Bono & The Edge Team Up With David Letterman For New Disney+ Special

The teaser has been released for the new Disney+ special, Bono & The Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman. Rolling Stone reported the show will premiere on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th -- the same day U2's new album of songs reimagined from their catalogue, named Songs Of Surrender is also released. The doc, which spotlights the U2 leaders heading back home to Dublin, Ireland marks the legendary TV host's first trip to the country.

The special was directed by Morgan Neville, best known for his documentaries 20 Feet From Stardom, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? and Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain.

Letterman joked in the doc's official statement, writing, “Recently, I won a radio contest. Winner gets to visit Dublin with Bono and The Edge (radio contest part not true, but I feel like a winner). They showed me around, introduced me to their musician friends, and performed some of their greatest songs in a small theater. It’s a great tour. Get in touch with them -- I’m told there are still availabilities. I’m the luckiest man on the planet. (There are no availabilities)."

The Edge explained that ultimately with U2, the more things change, the more they stay the same: ["That's the thing about a band, you get together at age 17, 18 -- you all decide you wanna do the same thing, which is make music together, and then the years go by but you kinda still kind of maintain that same dynamic and it's, it's remarkable not so much what's changed over the years, but how little has changed over the years. Y'know, when we get into the studio, it still feels like we're making our first album. It's that same sort of intensity and combines with ambition and a little bit of desperation, as well. And you really just wanna give it your best, and nothing really much has changed over the years."] SOUNDCUE (:30 OC: . . . over the years)

Dave Grohl Comic Book Out Now

Just released is the Orbit: Dave Grohl comic book by TidalWave Comics. The 22-page comic was written by Adam Rose and illustrated by Martin Gimenez, and is part of TidalWave's "Orbit" series, which "focuses on personalities who impact the world."

American Songwriter reported the comic, which spans Grohl's entire life, "Takes readers inside Grohl’s childhood growing up in Virginia. One series details how playing drums was a form of healing in the wake of his parents’ divorce, along with the early days of his first band, punk rockers Scream. There’s also a page devoted to Kurt Cobain, frontman of Nirvana, who died in 1994."

At one point, the animated Grohl character is quoted in the in the comic as saying, "Kurt’s death messed with me. Had me asking: who am I, where am I, what am I doing? He wasn’t with us anymore and that I had another day. I had to start from scratch with everything."

Dave Grohl told us a while back that he and Kurt Cobain could always bond over hard rock: ["Kurt had the same love of (death metal band) Celtic Frost and (hardcore act) Black Flag, and I've listened to this music for 20-something years and my passion for it has never died, and the thing that kind of bugs me about that Nirvana metal thing is that, y'know, we never set out to do anything really. We just wanted to play music, and we kind of became the poster boys for that whole turnover."] SOUNDCUE (:23 OC: . . . that whole turnover)

Limp Bizkit Guitarist Wes Borland Accuses Ex Wife Of Defamation

Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland is taking legal action against his ex-wife, accusing her of defamation. Rolling Stone reported that Borland is "using his ire at how an album review interpreted his ex-wife’s latest record as fuel for a legal action against her, accusing her of defamation."

The report continued, "The filing also cites an interview that ex-wife Carré Callaway (aka indie rocker Queen Kwong) gave the same writer for another publication. Borland’s filing, obtained by Rolling Stone, claims she attempted to profit off his name by talking about him."

A judge for the third judicial circuit of Michigan’s Wayne County, the family division court, will hear Borland’s petition Tuesday morning (January 17th). Borland specifically asked for Callaway “to show cause why she should not be held in contempt for her refusal to comply with this Court’s Judgment [the divorce decree].” The divorce agreement, signed by both parties in 2020, states that “neither party may make speeches, give interviews, or make public statements that defame the other party.”

There's never a time when I'm gonna back off from the stage show. I think I can do what I do with good conscience and still do my stage show and stay within my own boundaries, and everybody's gonna walk away going, 'That was the best show I've ever seen.' The Chainsmokers Share Crazy Break-Up Stories And Threesomes

On a recent podcast, The Chainsmokers talked about sex and relationships. Member Alex Pall shared a story about a girl he dated that his mom hated.

He said, while he was touring, he started getting texts from his girlfriend that didn't make sense. Out of the blue, she would write things like "You're a f–king a–hole " and would start an argument and then disappear for days, but never tell him why.

Then one day, Pall was sitting at his kitchen table and saw movement out of the corner of his eye. It was a motion-sensor camera intended to watch the dog and dispense treats. He later found out that his girlfriend had connected the camera to spy on him.

She had even blacked out the recording light with a marker and covered it with a piece of electric tape.

When he realized what had been going on for 7 months, he never confronted her, just broke up with her.

In the podcast, The Chainsmokers also talked about sharing a threesome together and sleeping with fans on the road. The stories are in the latest episode of Call Her Daddy.

Metallica's Megaforce Founder Tribute Show Uploaded

Metallica's special November 6th concert Hollywood, Florida's Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino has made its way online. The show was a tribute to late-Megaforce Records founder Jon "Jonny Z" Zazula and his wife Marsha Zazula.

The band honored the couple by performing only elections from the band's first two albums released on Megaforce -- 1983's Kill 'Em All and 1984's Ride The Lightning. As a further nod to the band's early champions, Raven -- also originally signed to Megaforce back in the day -- opened the show.

Blabbermouth reported at the time, "Jonny Z died in February at the age of 69. Jonny died of complications of the rare neuropathic disorder chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and osteopenia. Marsha passed away of cancer in January of last year. A portion of the proceeds from this show are being donated in Jonny and Marsha's name to MusiCares, with Metallica's charity All Within My Hands once again supporting Feeding South Florida with a donation following the show."

The modern era of Metallica has marked a far happier time for its bandmembers both on and off the stage. Lars Ulrich recently told us that the group tries to have a good time these days whether its recording or touring: "It's just about, like, having fun and wanting to do it, and as long as everybody gets along, and as long as we come up with s*** that keeps challenging ourselves and is fun to play and it's, like, a good vibe, y'know. . . and then going out and playing, like, 15 nutty shows in Europe in front of, like, a gazillion people, and playing, like, y'know, 'Orion' in its entirety or, you know, 'Disposable Heroes,' it's all fun."

Metallica kicks off its European tour on April 27th at Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff Arena.

U2 Reveals Details To Upcoming 'Songs Of Surrender' Album

The full tracklisting to U2's new album Songs Of Surrender has been announced. The 40-track collection is based around the concept of Bono's recent memoir and is broken down as a two-record set, with each member being represented by a single side of music.

Songs Of Surrender, which drops on March 17th will be available as a full 40-track digital set; a limited edition 40-track double CD with hardback deluxe book; and a limited edition 40-track four-vinyl collection.

The Edge spoke about Songs Of Surrender in the album's official announcement:

Music allows you to time travel, and we became curious to find out what it would be like to bring our early songs back with us to the present day and give them the benefit, or otherwise, of a 21st century reimagining.

What started out as an experiment quickly developed into a personal obsession as so many of our songs yielded to a new interpretation. Intimacy replaced post punk urgency. New tempos, new keys, and in some cases new chords and new lyrics arrived. A great song, it turns out is kind of indestructible.

The process of selecting which songs to revisit started with a series of demos. I looked at how a song would hang together if all but the bare essential elements were taken away. The other main aim was to find ways to bring intimacy into the songs, as most of them were originally written with live concert performance in mind.

Reviewing these sketch recordings with producer Bob Ezrin, it was very easy to see the ones that worked straight off the bat and those that needed more work. We all got into the sensibility of less is more.

Bono explained that at the end of the day, it's the connection between his music and the listeners that makes it matter: "That is, y'know, (laughs) my drug of choice. That's for me, the thing. I cannot believe you hear this melody line in your head and you, sort of, take it down and you find words for it and arrangement for it -- and the next thing y'know, you can be in a car in Tokyo, and it's on the radio. That's really my, my drug of choice. And songs are everything, really, to us."

Demi Lovato's Bondage Ad Banned In U.K. For Blasphemy

Ads for Demi Lovato's Holy Fvck album has been banned in the U.K. for being blasphemous.

After posters of Lovato in full-body bondage laying on a crucifix-shaped bed starting popping up in London, England's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) got involved. According to the publication, The Drum, it was too offensive to Christians and considered inappropriate for children.

The regulator stated that linking sexuality to the sacred Christian symbol as well as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ would cause "serious offense" to members of the religious group.

Humanist U.K. is challenging the ruling, stating that the decision was "unacceptable stifling of the right to freedom of expression."

When the album was released in the U.K. last year, it debuted in the Top 10.

Jeff Beck Dead At 78

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck died on January 10th at age 78, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

His family issued a statement, which reads: "It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck's passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss."

Jeff Beck will forever be remembered for his pioneering work in the Yardbirds after replacing Eric Clapton; the Jeff Beck Group -- which originally featured Rod Stewart and Ron Wood; Beck, Bogart & Appice, and on his own.

Jeff Beck's former Yardbirds bandmate Jimmy Page told us a while back that Jeff Beck's influence cannot be overstated: "He's been instrumental in pioneering a whole blueprints that was totally unique to him for everyone else to learn from. I mean, no one's ever equaled what Jeff's done, but he's -- he really shifted the whole sound and face of the electric guitar music, y'know?"

Jeff Beck said on more than one occasion that he'd rather work on his cars than be in the studio. We pressed him as to why his albums seem to be coming out so quickly these days. He said it's a combination of a sense of his own mortality, as well as a realization that his fans want to hear new music from him: "Time's getting on, isn't it? People are dying, and (I) look 'round and go, 'What the hell's going on here,' y'know? And I enjoy playing, and, y'know, there's no real excuse for me not to be doing something. People seem to enjoy what I do."

Out now is Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp's joint album, titled, 18. The pair mixed new originals with covers by the likes of John Lennon, the Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, the Velvet Underground, Killing Joke, the Everly Brothers, and more.
