Duran Duran Rolls Out 27-Date North American Tour

Fresh off their 2022 Rock Hall inductions, Duran Duran are returning to North America in support of their 2021 album Future Past. The 27-date trek cross-crosses the continent kicks off in California on May 27th at Napa Valley's Bottlerock Festival and wraps on September 6th at Boston's TD Garden.

Frontman Simon LeBon said in a statement announcing the tour: "It's remarkable to me that as a band, we are still hitting new milestones, and introducing the sound of DD to new generations of music lovers. We are truly grateful that we get to do what we do on a daily basis, and that we still love our job as much as we did when we started out some four decades ago."

Duran Duran won last year's Rock Hall fan vote and bassist John Taylor admitted to us that he's never once taken his life and career with the band for granted: "The kind of fortune that Duran Duran was sort of happens once in a lifetime, really. It's just like kids that come together that happen to, like, be into the same thing -- they just happen to go to the right place, the right time, meet 'Mr. Big' and da-da-da-da; and suddenly, it's a snowball effect."

Although Duran Duran have been global superstars for over 40 years, keyboardist Nick Rhodes explained that they've never once coasted when it came to recording or hitting the road: "I don't think it's something you can plan. You can hope, you can dream, you can wish for something and work hard and see what you achieve. It's been a lot of work."

He went on to write that winning the Best Metal Performance "was equally gratifying," especially since the song featured his friend and Black Sabbath bandmate, Tony Lommi.

The album features an all-star guest lineup including Eric Clapton, Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo, Duff McKagan, Zakk Wylde, Josh Homme, and Mike McCready. Two guests that appeared on the album, Taylor Hawkins and Jeff Beck have since passed away.

Ozzy was voted Best Metal Performance for "Degradation Rules" and Best Rock Album for Patient Number 9.

He was not in attendance at Sunday night's (2-5) awards show, however, Watt was there and he accepted for him during a pre-broadcast ceremony.

Linkin Park To Release Meteora-Era Song 'Lost'

Linkin Park is set to unveil previously unreleased Meteora-Era song "Lost" on Friday (February 10th). The song is from the sessions for the band's sophomore album, 2003's Meteora.

In advance of the full song release, Linkin Park have teased an 18-second snippet of the track. The song comes weeks before Meteora celebrates its 20th anniversary. The album, which was released on March 25th, 2003, spawned the hits "Somewhere I Belong," "Breaking the Habit," and "Numb," on its way to selling 16 million copies worldwide.

Kiss Manager Denies Lip-Synching During Concerts

Paul Stanley's rumored used of pre-recorded vocal tracks has long been the subject of many conversations in the Kiss fan community. Blabbermouth transcribed a chat with Kiss manager Doc McGhee, who spoke with the Syncin' Stanley YouTube page and explained, "He sings every track. So he sings to it. So he's not lip syncing. He fully sings. It's enhanced. It's just part of the process to make sure that everybody hears the songs the way they should be sang to begin with. Nobody wants to hear people do stuff that's not real, that's not what they came to hear."

Syncin' Stanley then pushed McGhee to clarify if he's, "actually saying there are backing tracks that (Stanley is) singing to," to which McGhee said: "He'll sing to tracks. It's all part of a process. Because everybody wants to hear everybody sing. But he fully sings to every song."

When we last caught up with Paul Stanley, he explained that if a fan shells out their hard earned cash to see Kiss in concert, they're getting a massive show by seasoned vets who know exactly what it takes to deliver the goods -- be it in an open air stadium or a smoke-filled, hole in the wall club: "There's absolutely no substitute for working your way up. Bands today that are starting out -- they don't have a clue. Most of these bands go from obscurity to selling a million albums, two million albums -- they couldn't entertain a phone booth and that's why (laughter) they don't sell tickets. You learn the craft by doing it. You start in the clubs, you work your way up to being third on a bill in an auditorium, then you get to headlining there, then you get to work your way into arenas. By the time you're in arenas, you damn well know how to do it."

Taylor Hawkins' Son Wins Drumeo Award For His Performance At Tribute Concert

Taylor Hawkins' son, Shane, was honored at the Drumeo Awards for his performance at the 2022 tribute concert dedicated to his father's memory.

Last week, Shane took home the Drum Performance of the Year prize for playing "My Hero" with the Foo Fighters at Wembley Stadium in September.

The Drumeo awards wrote that the 16-year-old poured "his heart and soul into a live performance," and added, "It touched millions of people and showed how much love, energy and spirit can come out on the drum kit."

Jason Newsted Returning To Metal On New Album

Former-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted is returning full throttle with some new metal music. Ultimate-Guitar.com reported he's just wrapped production on his debut album from his longtime group, the Chophouse Band.

During a chat with Gator 98.7 FM's Gator Garage, Newsted revealed, "Actually, I spent six months of last year putting together The Chophouse Band Volume 1 (album). The Chophouse Band has been together (and) making music since 1992. So it was our first album after 30 years. I spent a lot of time on that. And then, once I got that under my belt, I'm kind of stepping back into the heavy now."

Newsted went on to say, "So the last couple of weeks I've been auditioning guitar players for a heavy project. I'm back on bass and singing with a metal drummer -- double bass, y'know; gettin' loud again. So I've got a couple of irons in the fire. I'm putting two new projects together right now -- but loud."

Jason Newsted chose to split with Metallica after leader James Hetfield gave him an ultimatum between playing with Metallica or spending his downtime with his own solo project, Echobrain. Newsted told us a while back that he never saw how Echobrain could have interfered with Metallica: "I never felt that it was going to affect Metallica in any way. There was no way that it could. The monster and the integrity and the legend that Metallica's built, it would take a lot more than that to ever affect it."

In a statement, the band wrote, "We send all our love and support for Ozzy and thank our fans in the UK and Ireland especially for your loyalty by standing with us… Right now we're looking at feasible opportunities to see each other again and will post update's sic accordingly."

In a statement earlier this week, Osbourne wrote, "As you may know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine. My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.

He added, "I am honestly humbled by the way you've all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I'm not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn't deal with the travel required. Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really F*CKS ME UP, more than you will ever know."

Slipknot Surprises Fans With Unexpected Release 'Bone Church'

He continued, "‘Bone Church' started life in a jam room on the ‘.5: The Gray Chapter' tour. We've been bringing it closer and closer to life ever since, and finally, here it is. This one is for the fans – a further vision deeper into Slipknot's history, which is still being written. Enjoy."

2023 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees Announced

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced the nominees for 2023 Induction -- with the list including Soundgarden, Iron Maiden, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Rage Against The Machine, Warren Zevon, Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Joy Division/New Order, the Spinners, A Tribe Called Quest, the White Stripes.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Eight out of 14 of the nominees are on the ballot for the first time.

Inductees will be announced in May with the Rock Hall induction ceremony taking place this fall with date, venue, and on-sale information to be announced.

Billy Joel spoke to The Los Angeles Times and urged voters to induct his friend, the late-Warren Zevon. The "Piano Man" said in part, "I just wanted to put in my two cents of supporting Warren Zevon to be included. If anyone deserved to be, he did. He was a real original, and I don't know if that's appreciated enough. The first minute I saw him, I was knocked out. He was like the crazy brother I never had. He was fearless, and it stuck with me. I never thought he got the attention he deserved."

Soundgarden's Kim Thayil told us that the Rock Hall nod has helped him see the band in respect to rock's entire cultural experience: "Well, I've only been aware of this for a few hours. I think it's just a re-acknowledgement of realizing that, y'know, Soundgarden's a part of a world that involves, uh, mosh pits, it involves sock hops, (laughs) it involves doing the twist, it involves hip hop. It's, sort of, a reminder that beyond our work and our, our peer group that being recognized and being part of the greater community both currently and throughout time -- and that's kinda cool."

Sheryl Crow told us that across her career, each and every album can be considered a series of new diary entries: "I'm a singer/songwriter and I approach songwriting from the standpoint of, y'know, craftsmanship to a certain extent. And also lyrically I think every album I've made has reflected who I am while making the record. And each song, y'know, is kind of a glimpse into an event or experience. Y'know, each album just kind of reflects kind of a period of life."

When last caught up with Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, we suggested that most people have a misconception of him as just a crazy heavy metal singer, to which he replied: "Oh, I hope so. If that's a misconception that'll do. (Laughs) That's a good start, y'know?. Uh, I don't know. It doesn't really concern me what misconceptions they have about me. Just that they understand the kind of music that I make, that it rocks. If they buy a record with my name on it, it should rock."

Cyndi Lauper explained to us that she's tried to make her music as inclusive as possible throughout her career: "Y'know, I was in Blue Angel, but by the time I could come out as Cyndi Lauper, I decided, if I was gonna bust my ass to climb on the top of the mountain, I was gonna make it worthwhile for everybody. So, that's why in the (‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun') video I had all the nationalities, as many races of girls, so that every little girl could see themselves and know that they, too, were entitled to a joyful experience."

Not long before his 2003 death, Warren Zevon revealed he loved to read Norman Mailer, John Updike, and John Cheever while he was younger, which might have inadvertently led to his penchant for writing songs with violent imagery: "I found myself -- I don't know if I chose to, but I found myself writing songs about violent subjects more than romantic subjects. I mean now and then, I like to think I have some good-hearted (laughs) romantic impulses, and express 'em in songs, but for the most part, I write a different kinda song than that."

  • According to their previous comments, a new album could be announced any day now.

Paramount+ has announced a music docu series about Lollapalooza. Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza will be a three part program directed by Michael John Warren.

Warren said in a statement, "When Lolla was launched in 1991, the concert industry felt like a boring car ride that was running out of gas. We pumped new life into the live music experience and set the foundation for the youth's counter culture to become important and exciting again. Now more than three decades young, I am happy to have this opportunity to give people an inside look at the festival's contribution to music history."

Jane's Addiction Taps Josh Klinghoffer For Upcoming Tour Dates

Jane's Addiction posted a message to fans on social media explaining that former-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer will join them on tour. The band is forging ahead with a string of domestic and foreign March dates without guitarist Dave Navarro, who's been suffering from long covid.

The band -- Perry Farrell, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins posted a message on Facebook, which reads:

We'd like to address the questions surrounding Dave and the upcoming Jane's shows. As a band we are in a great place, writing new music, and the bond is tighter than ever. We all hope Dave can be out playing with us; when he feels healthy and ready.

For the near future, our brother Josh Klinghoffer will jump in for the upcoming shows on the West Coast, South America and some additional international shows to be announced soon. We want to thank you for being there with us over these thirty some odd odd years. You know, we're going to keep throwing down for you.

Perry, Eric, and Stephen

Not too long ago, Perry Farrell told us that he counts himself lucky to have found his place in the world through Jane's Addiction: "Well, y'know, I still cherish being in Jane's Addiction, as hard as it is, y'know? I can't say that my band and I are friends, and there was a time we didn't like each other at all, but I would say that I love being in Jane's Addiction so much, it overrides any kind of like shortcomings I might see in them and they might see in me."
