Queensland Students Skip History Exam After Teachers Taught The Wrong Caesar

One hundred forty Queensland high school seniors received exemptions from their ancient history exam Wednesday after teachers at nine schools mistakenly taught Augustus Caesar instead of Julius Caesar. Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek discovered the curriculum error just days before the statewide test and granted the exemptions, calling the experience “extremely traumatic” for students. The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority had notified the state’s 180 high schools two years ago that the 2025 exam topic would shift from Augustus Caesar to Julius Caesar after four years. “I’m very unhappy about the situation,” Langbroek told reporters, promising affected students would not be “disadvantaged in any way.” The exempted students will receive credit based on their remaining coursework, which represents 75% of their annual grade, while the missed exam accounts for 25%.
